Kindle application pre-installed on Asus laptops and netbooks

Notebook and netbook maker Asus is pre-installing the Amazon Kindle for PC application, allowing Asus owners to access Amazon’s selection of e-books without having to suffer through the pain of software installation on their own time. Not much more to say about this, except that it further cements Amazon’s hegemony in the e-book market. How will Barnes and Noble respond, I wonder? → Read More

Asus claims 100 percent recyclable laptops (that are made of bamboo)

What do you do with a laptop when you’re done with it? That’s an actual question being that the only laptop I owned before my current old man MacBook is sitting in the closet, broken beyond repair. Now, if I had one of these new Asus laptops, I could, somehow, recycle them. Helping the Earth, one laptop at a time. → Read More

Is the Asus Rampage III Extreme the best motherboard ever or overpriced hype?

Moments ago, in our chatroom, I said that, if I had the money, I’d buy two Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboards: one to use and one to hang on the wall like a diploma. That’s how great the thing looks. Never mind that, simply reading the stats, it’s one of the best motherboard money can buy as of today—it looks as if it was designed by an extraterrestrial being, one with an advanced outer space art degree. It’s a very good board, but is it OMG BEST THING EVER~! → Read More

The Asus Eee Keyboard is finally shipping

My goodness. Talk about a long product development cycle. We first saw a working demo of the Asus Eee Keyboard 17 months ago at CES 2009 and it just now started shipping to customers. We’re not even going to pretend to know why it would took so long to make it from the show floor to customers. All that matters now is that the device is now shipping from Amazon to buyers. Finally. → Read More

    Official Eee Keyboard specs revealed

After over a year of delays, promises, and waiting, we finally know what’s going to be in the Eee Keyboard. Has it been too long? Is it too late for the poor keyboard that every wanted, but no one could get? Do we still care? I’ll admit, I like it, but I may be in the minority. → Read More

Asus Eee Pad coming in July

We’re about to see another manufacturer throw their hat into the Tablet PC ring. ASUS is expected to show out their EeePad in June at Computex, with a July launch date. Of course, ASUS has a reputation for needing to push those launch dates out a little bit, so we’ll see if things go as planned. → Read More

Absolutely bananas Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard first offered by Origin

This is the greatest motherboard that has ever lived. It’s the Asus Rampage III Extreme, and it’s designed for people who do insane things like run three video cards simultaneously alongside an Intel Extreme Edition processor. People need to run Metro 2033 (and, soon, Crysis 2) at 200 frames per second. Origin is the first enthusiast builder to offer the motherboard. → Read More

Asus Eee Keyboard available for pre-order at Amazon

It’s been a long time since we first met, Eee Keyboard. You’ve changed a lot. Well, not that much. But you’re not quite as compelling as you were in early 2009. HTPCs are being integrated with our HDTVs now, and our smartphones and tablets are becoming universal remotes for them. I’m afraid there’s not a lot of room for a doodad like yourself… but I’m reporting you for old time’s sake. What, you’re $600 now?! → Read More

Asus Ares 5970 is truly two 5870s slapped together, no holds barred

The ATI Radeon HD 5970 is essentially two 5870s slapped together, but underclocked a little bit so as not to melt a hole through your carpet (but will melt a hole through your bank account~!) Asus saw that and was like, “Pfft, wait till you see what we’ve come up with.” It’s called the Asus Ares 5970, a true-to-life dual 5870 solution that doesn’t downclock nothin’ for nobody. Slight problem: it might not actually come out here in the U.S. → Read More

Yes, Asus, bring back the matte screen love!

The new 1001PX from Asus isn’t particularly noteworthy spec-wise. 250GB hard drive, 1.66GHz Atom processor… you know the drill. But it’s got a matte screen! I really don’t understand why people want these glossy screens so bad. Just give me the option, whether it’s cheaper or more expensive — I’m tired of staring into a mirror-like surface whenever I’m trying to write. Now, if they could just put this on the much-sexier 1005PR… → Read More

The Asus Cine5 speaker brings surround sound to your bedroom, desk

Surround sound bars are generally about the width of a 42-inch flat panel, which is perfect if you have a large TV. The Asus Eee Keyboard will now be released in April 2010

It seems a little odd that we first saw the Eee Keyboard at CES 2009 and it’s still not available. The demo that we played with at least seemed like it was nearly production ready. But here we are over a year later and now the Asus chairman is stating that the new release date is April 2010. Like we haven’t heard that one before. → Read More

The Asus DR-900 ebook reader brings Wi-Fi and 3g to a 9-inch screen

The Kindle DX better watch its back. There’s a new 9-inch ebook reader on the bus. The Asus DR-900 offers nearly everything that makes the Kindle DX special, a 9-inch E-ink screen, Wi-Fi, and optional 3G wireless, plus it has an SD card slot for further expansion over the 2GB built-in storage. But none of that matters. The Kindle DX still has something that’s more important than those hardware specs. It has access to the Kindle Store. → Read More
