    Things We Hate About Apple

Since its founding over 30 years ago, Apple has been one of the most important companies in the tech industry. Having defined the personal computer, mainstream GUI-based operating systems and an arsenal of other gear, Apple has been instrumental in advancing technologies. But for all its accomplishments, Apple also manages continually to be one of the most inflammatory companies trading today. → Read More

The Apple Home: Is Apple Changing The Face Of Home Entertainment???

The first week of Feb. is drawing to a close and the iPhone is still buzzing around the blogosphere like wild fire. In case anyone has forgotten, let me remind you that the AppleTV will be gracing us with its presence on Feb. 20. I’m forced to stop and think about what sort of impact this small, silver, square and every other product from Apple will have on my life and in our homes. Look at what the iPod did; we have become a society of white earbud-toting minions because of Jobs and his marketing genius. Every Apple event is like Christmas and 90% of the time we leave the event grinning from ear to ear with our wallets stretched wide open. It almost seems certain that the AppleTV will have a huge impact on our home entertainment centers. But wait… → Read More

Apple vs. The World: PatentMonkey IP-Review

Apple is greater than the sum of its parts. IP is important for any company today and Apple’s whopping $74 Billion market valuation shows that investors love Apple’s IP. Apple’s intangibles boil down to several primary focus areas: its OS, iPod and iPhone patents and applications; the letter “i” (and other Trademarks); and know how in delivering digital media on its slick devices. In this IP-Review, we dive into Apple’s patent portfolio, provide insights into what exactly its holds, how defensible its business is and maybe find out if there is room for any more fish in the sea. → Read More

Apple vs. The World: Playing Dress-Up With Your Apple

Windows users always pull out the old “there are no peripherals for Mac” chestnut whenever they’re backed into a corner by rabid Apple addicts. While it’s true there aren’t as many extras for Mac as there are for Windows, there are still plenty of peripherals to go around. To prove our point, we rounded up a bunch of our favorites. There are of course tons more that can be added to the list, so please feel free to pony up your own top choices in the comments. → Read More

Apple vs. The World: OS X or Vista?

Mash-up Courtesy of MacThemesForums Comparing OS X to Windows Vista is a correlation fraught with peril. There is so much to like in each operating system that picking a winner in each category was difficult and bound to get me flamed. What follows is a non-exhaustive examination of OS X Tiger and Vista. Clearly, Leopard is on its way and will change the game considerably, but since Steve hasn’t called to tell us when or where that’s happening, we’re going to work with what we have. So, without further ado, let the OS X vs. Vista bumfight begin. → Read More

Apple Vs. The World: Brit Hates Macs, Our Freedom

, has penned a delightful screed against Macs and the people who love them, saying: I hate Macs. I have always hated Macs. I hate people who use Macs. I even hate people who don’t use Macs but sometimes wish they did. Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui. He does, however, point out that: Besides, that’s what we PC owners are like – unreliable, idiosyncratic and gleefully unfair. So there you have it. PC lovers are O’Reilly types while Mac lovers are flitting freebirds that wing from icon to icon like Joni Mitchell at an LA wine-tasting party. What say ye, dear readers? I hate Macs [Guardian] → Read More

Apple vs. The World: How to Switch

Some would like you to believe that becoming a Mac user isn’t easy. Ignore these plebeian claims, because the Mac is a great platform for any computer user. Whether you’re doing audio, video, web browsing, or even gaming (*cough* – Blake), a Mac can get it done. Plus, Apple’s advanced Mac OS X operating system allows for robust data controls. In the following guide, I’ll show you how to completely switch from Windows to OS X in just one day without compromising anything. → Read More

    Apple vs. The World: Introduction

This week’s set of features are about Apple. The world is pretty divided in its feelings toward Apple. Most CG staffers love it, but we know a lot of people who don’t feel the same way. Who’s right and, more importantly, how much is a refurbished iPod Video? This week we’ll take a closer look at the company we all love to hate. Vince will tell us how to switch while Blake will collect 10 things we hate about Apple. I’ve gone through and attempted to compare Apples to oranges by running Vista and OS X side-by-side and reporting on their various diverging points. Finally, we’ll offer a few great pieces of kit that will help you make the most out of your new Mac or iPod. You can read all of our stories here as well as some important stories from the past few months that may have slipped past your radar. → Read More
