Terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.

As a result of the deals, Acquia is today introducing Acquia Migration Services and Acquia Security Services for Drupal enterprise website owners.

The first includes a suite of software tools, modules and best practices to help organizations migrate content from legacy web content management and social software systems such as WordPress or SharePoint to Drupal.

For more perspective on the Cyrve acquisition, check out co-founder Moshe Weitzman’s blog post.

The Acquia Security Services practice includes tools and services to assess Drupal site security and implement security strategies based on best practices.

Acquia, which was co-founded by Dries Buytaert, the original creator and project lead of the open source Drupal project, recently raised $15 million of a planned $20 million equity round, bringing the company’s total funding to more than $38 million.

Acquia backers include North Bridge Venture Partners, Sigma Partners, Tenaya Capital and O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures.

Acquia, a Boston-based commercial open source software company that provides a set of tools and network services for the Drupal social publishing system, has raised $8.5 million in third-round funding.
The Series C round brings the company’s total of capital raised to $23.5 million and comes at a time when Acquia is experiencing massive growth in terms of customers and partners.

The additional capital will be used to expand operations in the US and Europe and the further development of SaaS and platform-as-a-service offerings for Drupal, the company says.

Acquia offerings for Drupal include website hosting, custom distributions, a search platform, training and professional services. Acquia also markets Drupal Gardens, an easy-to-use publishing and management platform for relatively basic Drupal sites, and Drupal Commons, social business software for community sites.

Acquia says it’s seeing massive adoption in the enterprise space, helping companies like Red Hat, The Economist, Intuit and Thomson Reuters build, deploy and operate their corporate websites, social communities and intranets.

The company claims to have tripled its customer base in 2010, attracted over 220 partners across the entire system and gone from 30 to 70 full-time employees.

Acquia is keen on pointing out that it gives back to the Drupal community in a big way – the creator of the social publishing system happens to be the company’s cofounder and CTO Dries Buytaert – and says 30% of its R&D team currently works directly on Drupal 7.

Acquia even publishes a site called Drupal Myths which it uses to “set the record straight on the countless benefits of Drupal, dispelling many of the fallacies that continue to be spread by less innovative proprietary vendors”.

Acquia, whose co-founder and CTO Dries Buytaert created the Drupal platform in 2001, tells TechCrunch that the company will use the funding to help create and expand the market for Drupal in the enterprise world. Drupal hopes to expand its existing base of 200 subscription customers.

Acquia will also use the funding to develop new products and services. Over the past year, Acquia rolled out various products connected to its publishing platform, including Acquia Hosting, Acquia Gardens (think WordPress.com for Drupal) and Acquia Training.

The Drupal platform is built on PHP and MySQL, with the purpose of giving those with minimal programming skills the ability to create interactive websites. Acquia, which aims to be the Red Hat of the Drupal community, was one of the first commercial entities to centralize open source development efforts.

Earlier this afternoon, six startups had five minutes each to present their wares onstage to a panel of VCs and an audience at the Web 2.0 Expo Launch Pad. Panelists gave feedback to the companies in real-time, and depending on how well they did, had the option to “offer these applicants non-binding term sheets for financing”. In the end, Triggit was named as the people’s choice for best startup of Launch Pad. You can read about each contender below. Acquia – Acquia intends to provide products that improve on the open source Drupal social publishing system. Projects in development include Spokes, a notification system, and Caliper, a spam and content monitoring service. Chirp – Chirp’s flagship product, chirpscreen, streams media and information from top social networking and media sites to your desktop. Information can be presented as part of either a desktop application or a screensaver, and content is aggregated from top sites including Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, and eBay. Oortle – We covered Oortle’s upcoming new product videophlow earlier today, but here’s a recap: Oortle provides products that bring the community aspect back to sharing media. Their current release is photophlow (currently in invite-only beta), which provides an interactive flickr experience. JobScore – The job hunt can be just as tough on employers as it is on prospective applicants. JobScore aims to provide a comprehensive solution to help facilitate the process. Employers can easily publish ads to all of the top career sites, and JobScore rates candidates by relevant criteria. Employers can also refer candidates to other members of the site (for a price, if they wish), further expediting the process. TradeVibes – This site provides a community for people interested in startups, allowing users to share opinions, ratings, and discussions about them. Its profiles include brief overviews and other relevant information about companies. (Disclaimer: This site is a direct rip-off of CrunchBase). Triggit – With a single line of JavaScript, Triggit lets website publishers easily add advertising to their sites with a simple WYSIWYG editor. Ads can be pulled from sites including Shopping.com and the Amazon affiliate program. Users can also easily add content from YouTube and Flickr. The software is especially appealing to publishers in the long tail who might not otherwise have the savvy to monetize their sites. Today Trigit announced support for integration with Google AdSense to widespread applause. CrunchBase Information Acquia Chirp Oortle JobScore TradeVibes
