Short version: A stylish and fun alternative to the likes of the Canon G12 and Nikon P7000. It’s not the quickest on the draw, and the build quality is obviously a step down from its elder brother, the X100, but image quality is good and operation is straightforward. It’s got a great lens and after a little familiarization could be quite versatile. While it compares decently with the competition, it’s far from a knockout, and if you’re looking for a compact enthusiast camera you would do well to look closely at the other options before pulling the trigger.

Long-suffering handset maker Sony Ericsson is all about the UX, people, and they’ve got the screens to prove it. The new system does basically what everyone else is doing and it brings all of your friend’s content into something called TimeScape (there’s another one for media called Media Scape.) Their new UX UI looks pretty amazing – you basically drag cards all over the screen with your finger, which is quite interesting and it’s made all the better by having some lady and two dudes show you how everything works. → Read More

While we’re still digging for independent confirmation of this, we just got it on good word that Sony Ericsson’s first big jump into Android, the XPERIA X3, is tentatively set for a launch in January. This seemed a bit strange to us, at first, considering that the X3′s sequential predecessor, the X2, hasn’t launched yet. In fact, the only potential launch dates we’ve seen pop up for the X2 are in January as well. Then we realized: as far as we can tell, these things have been developed in parallel – so why not launch them together? Oh man, Expansys. Either you’ve got someone who doesn’t know how to punch in embargo dates properly, or whoever is in charge of determining when your product pages go live likes to live on the edge. Expansys has leaked or confirmed details on more handsets than we’ll even bother to count. This time around, they’ve shined a light on Sony Ericsson’s first (and oh-so-gorgeous) Android handset, Rachel. First of all, it looks like Rachel’s real name is XPERIA X3. Back in September, Sony Ericsson CTO said they had no plans to bring Android devices to the market. Oh, how quickly things change when you’re bleeding hundreds of millions per quarter. Beyond the name, Expansys also unveiled almost the entirety of the handset’s specs. There’s no mention of what sort of CPU this guy’s packin’, but it does have an 800×400 4″ Touchscreen, HSDPA/HSUPA, 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with an LED flash, VGA video recording, a 3.5mm headset jack (Thank you, Sony Ericsson!), and assisted GPS.
