Comparison Shopping Site TheFind Gets Into Social Commerce With Facebook Integration

Comparison shopping site TheFind, which recently passed Yahoo to become the second most popular shopping site behind Google (according to comScore), is pushing its social commerce strategy today with an in-depth Facebook integration.

TheFind’s newest social commerce feature, Shop Like Friends, allows you to sign into the site Facebook Connect and tap into the the tastes and preferences of any of your Facebook Friends, based on the stores and brands they ‘like’ on the platform. So when you sign on, TheFind requests access to the pages your friends have “liked” on Facebook, then maps the stores and brands it detects to over 40,000 different stores and brands on TheFind. → Read More

    TheFind Launches Comparison Shopping Feature

In time for the holiday shopping season, TheFind, a technology-heavy shopping search engine, has launched a nifty comparison shopping feature that’s worth a spin.

When you do a search for a product on the find, you can now choose to see the “best price” view. For now, the feature is only available for electronics and appliances, which amounts to around 40 million products (or 10 percent of the total index) indexed by TheFind. → Read More

TheFind Acquires iStorez.com To Help Consumers Find Deals While Shopping

TheFind, a technology-heavy shopping search engine, has acquired the deal-driven shopping site iStorez.com. iStorez aggregates the latest coupons, sales and deals from retailers across a variety of categories. Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed, but we are hearing it was less than $500,000.

TheFind, which is a search engine geared more towards finding new products than locating a price for a particular item, will use its latest acquisition to attract consumers who are looking for promotions, deals and sales from online retailers. This is probably a wise move given the current economic climate. Everyone is looking for a deal and its helpful to have information about sales and promotions side by side in your shopping portal. → Read More

TheFind Launches Its iPhone App In Private Beta

TheFind, a technology-heavy shopping search engine, is introducing an iPhone application for the site that it says should launch on August 4. The application allows users to search for stores in a region that are selling a particular product (the site claims a database of over 200,000 retail locations). Because the app hasn’t been accepted to the Apple App Store yet, TheFind is going to hold a beta using Apple’s Ad Hoc application distribution program. If it works well, we hope to be able to offer similar beta programs in the future for other App Store developers. The first 100 users to go here will be able to sign up for the beta. After submitting their iPhone’s unique device identifier (UDID), users will be able to download the application from the site itself. Typically Apple requires users to download applications through the App Store, but this Ad-Hoc distribution system allows developers to distribute their apps before they’ve been approved to a maximum of 100 users. TheFind launched in its current format in 2006 (it was previously known as FatLens, a ticketing and shopping site). The new site is a shopping discovery engine, geared more towards finding new products than locating a price for a particular item. In 2007 the site acquired Glimpse, a womens’ shopping destination. TheFind.com Acquires Glimpse

Shopping search engine startup TheFind has acquired the high-fashion shopping site Glimpse.com for an undisclosed amount. It’s an early deal for Glimpse, which just launched this year. TheFind is a comparison shopping search engine that crawls many shopping sites across the internet (190 million products at over 500,000 stores). Other shopping sites often charge for the privilege of getting listed in engines like Shopping.com. This keeps the results page clean of nonsensical results while generating some extra revenue. The impetus for the deal was to increase their offering targeted to the female market. TheFind will be powering the shopping search for Glimpse.com, enabling the site to cover more online boutiques, specialty fashion retailers, and brand stores. TheFind was founded in 2003 and launched their main search site last year after running a of their technology on FatLens.com. They are funded by two rounds of financing totaling $23 million from Bain Capital, Redpoint, and Lightspeed Ventures. Update: It sounds like Glimpse was out of cash and shopping themselves around. Rumored price was less than $100k. → Read More

    TheFind.com Beta Signup Page

Silicon Valley based TheFind has a beta signup page live and will be launching sometime in the next 45 days. The service will be a very technology heavy comparision shopping engine. TheFind has been running a showcase shopping search engine called Fatlens around secondary ticket sales for the last year. The new service will leverage the same technology as Fatlens but expand into significantly more shopping categories. “We will have everything except travel” co-founder Siva Kumar told me on the phone today. TheFind was founded in 2003 and has taken $8 million in venture funding from Redpoint Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners & Cambrian Ventures. → Read More
