According to Pocket-Lint, the PlayStation phone aka Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play should be rolling into shops in April, a few months after Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. As you recall, the phone has an “incredible” screen and a full gaming features including a specially-built Android marketplace for PlayStation (or PlayStation-style titles.) → Read More
Mobile phone maker HTC this morning announced a series of executive promotions and newly created management positions.
The Taiwanese company said it had poached two senior execs from rival Sony Ericsson and that it had promoted three others to its management team. Buried in the press release, however, is that a senior executive of its own has quit the company. → Read More
Internet communication service provider Skype this morning announced the availability of the popular service on three Sony Ericsson smartphones based on the Symbian platform. Users of Satio, Vivaz and Vivaz pro devices can now use Skype over WiFi or mobile data connection (that is: 3G, GPRS and EDGE).
If that’s your smartphone and you like free calls to your Skype friends on the go, head over to skype.com/m or visit the Sony Ericsson Play Now arena later this month. → Read More
When the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 was announced in November, my major concern was whether it was coming to the U.S., when it was coming and if it would be subsidized by a carrier. The good news is that it looks like the X10 will be hitting AT&T’s shores this Spring. → Read More
More Android handsets are on the way from Sony Ericsson as the handset manufacturer just announced smaller versions of the Xperia X10: the X10 mini and X10 mini pro. Clever names, right? These handsets are quite sexy, if I say so myself, and the pro version has the nice addition of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Like the bigger X10, these feature SE’s custom UX platform over Android, which includes Timescape for aggregating all your content to one place. But enough about me yapping over these handsets; I’ll step aside and let you experience them for yourself. Hit the break for the full release and some videos. → Read More
While you love birds are busy being smitten on a lazy Valentine’s Sunday, Sony Ericsson is busy dishing out new goods from Barcelona, Spain. Mobile World Congress is sure to bring some interesting news in the mobile space this week, and SE is kicking things off with the pro version of the Vivaz. What makes it “pro,” you ask? → Read More
Long-suffering handset maker Sony Ericsson is all about the UX, people, and they’ve got the screens to prove it. The new system does basically what everyone else is doing and it brings all of your friend’s content into something called TimeScape (there’s another one for media called Media Scape.) Their new UX UI looks pretty amazing – you basically drag cards all over the screen with your finger, which is quite interesting and it’s made all the better by having some lady and two dudes show you how everything works. → Read More
Earlier this morning Comverse announced a new partnership with Sony Ericsson to bring visual voicemail to future SE handsets. Ever since a certain mobile device (hint: starts with “i” and ends with “phone”) hit the mobilesphere, consumers have been clamoring for visual voicemail on other cell phones / carriers. Slowly, but surely, the incredibly convenient feature has begun to spring up. → Read More
We (well, I) completely forgot about the BIG Sony Ericsson announcement that went down yesterday. It may have to do with the fact that nobody e-mailed us (well, me) about it, and that the FCC announced its Net Neutrality deal. Be that as it may, we now know, definitively, what Sony Ericsson was on about last week: yes, it’s a pair of headphones that sense when they’re in use. People are dancing in the streets already. → Read More
The following has very little to do with the actual headline. → Read More
Apparently Sony Ericsson will change the way we all listen to music, forever. Let’s see… headphones or speakers, and my ears. That’s how I listen to music; maybe you guys do it differently. → Read More
We’d usually expect to have seen a leaked event invite pop up by now, but SEMC Blog is claiming that Sony Ericsson will be hosting an announcement event next week. What ever might they be announcing? Our fingers are crossed in hopes they’ll debut the X2 (or, better yet, that they’ll skip the X2 and announce the Android-powered X3, otherwise known as “Rachel”), but don’t be too surprised if it’s something silly. Sony Ericsson has held reasonably sized events to announce Bluetooth accessories before; they’d host a press conference to celebrate their CEO adopting a cat, if they could. We’ll keep an ear to the ground. → Read More
Sure Sony can’t solve its own problems but SE has brought in a new head, Bert Nordberg, and is officially placing Sir CEO Hoard Stringer as the head of the board. The resulting shake-up had better give SE a huge boost or else they’re going down.
Nordberg replaces Carl-Henric Svanberg. → Read More
Are you an English WAG? (And if you are, how did you hear about us, lol!) Good news, then, since Sony Ericsson just lifted the veil on this fashiony phone, the Jalou. I’ve been pronouncing it J-Lo, like the singer, all morning, so feel free to do the same. → Read More
Let’s pour a little out for Sony Ericsson because if they’re not dead now they’re dying rapidly. The phone maker posted a loss of $300 million for Q2, it’s fourth consecutive quarter of lagging earnings. What’s the problem? They’re not releasing anything anyone wants. The X1 was a dud and the rest of their new line hasn’t been announced yet. They’re basically sitting out the smartphone revolution. → Read More
Well here’s a welcome addition to today’s happiness bank: Sony Ericsson is dropping the Memory Stick Micro, Sony’s red hot memory stick platform, for MicroSD. The Memory Stick, if you’ll recall, was Sony’s attempt to rule the roost when it came to memory cards, a strategy that failed so spectacularly that they created an entire sidereal constellation of memory cards outside of the normal collection, ensuring absolute uselessness and incompatibility. → Read More
Sony Ericsson will need a hot cash injection of 100 million euro ($135 million) to survive after March 2010. Sony and Ericsson will both be raising cash in order to keep this dog afloat for a while longer and the company is cutting “one in five” jobs. The real question: Will they be missed? → Read More
If I was the FCC, I’d start my own gadget blog in light of the fact that I’d have first dibs to all the new gear. Er, wait…nevermind. Scratch that, stick to your federal duties and leave the blogging to us. Sony Ericsson’s newest (T-Mobile-bound) slider phone, the Cyber-shot CS8 (known elsewhere as the C905), has received approval by the FCC. Not only are there a bunch of external and internal photos of the new CS8, but for the extra curious/impatient readers out there, you can also read the CS8′s user manual (pdf). From what we can gather, the CS8 includes an 8 megapixel camera w/ flash, WiFi, GPS (w/ Google Maps), Bluetooth, and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot, among other features. Obviously, since this is just FCC approval, there’s no pricing or availability info yet. → Read More
