Tearing Down The iPod Shuffle: Harder Than You Think

Tearing down the iPod Shuffle may look easy – it is, after all, made of a few pieces of aluminium press-fitted and glued together – but the poor lads at iFixIt had a dickens of a time. Their complaint?

Although this step makes it look super-simple to open the Shuffle, it’s not. It took us a good half hour of prying and heat-gunning to open the little guy.
Pro tip: Aluminum gets hot when it’s heated!

Little clip-on MP3 player looks familiar, costs $12 today only

I’ve been shuffling all these memories through my brain, trying to figure out where I’ve seen this MP3 player before. Shuffle though I may, I can’t seem to shuffle the correct memory back into place despite some pretty intense shuffling. → Read More

Proporta 3G iPod shuffle sleeve: Always wear protection

Proporta has announced their most recent addition to the iPod accessory train, the Silicone Sleeve for the 3G iPod shuffle. From just a personalization point of view, it’s a pretty cool product. They offer three options to choose from currently, and all of them seem to be fairly tasteful and well designed. We have seen their products before, and they passed muster from Biggs. Given the fact that this is a variation of that basic theme, I think it’s safe to say that these will be of the same build quality. → Read More

    iPod Shuffle headphones galore

Well, one of our biggest issues with the Shuffle 2k9 is, of course, that you’re locked into using proprietary headphones. If you insist on getting one of these silly things, do yourself a favor and at least spring for a better pair of earbuds; of course, at that point you’ll be spending close to $100, and you may as well buy a Nano or baby Zune. But I digress. Soon lots of headphone manufacturers will be putting out Shuffle-compatible cans. None are available yet, but they have been announced. → Read More

Dexim previewing the Shu-Lip for the iPod shuffle 2K9

The latest iPod shuffle is all about being chintzy (our hands-on here), which is great for accessory makers like Dexim. You see, they will make a bunch of coin selling this simple $10 USB adaptor to replace the little cable thing that comes with the new shuffle. There hasn’t been a release date announced yet, but you can plop down a pre-order now. → Read More

    Hands-on: iPod Shuffle 2K9

For an Apple product, the new iPod Shuffle is a bit underwhelming in the aesthetics department. It’s tiny, for sure, but I can’t and most likely won’t ever get over the fact that I have to use Apple’s earbuds. What am I supposed to do with my Ultimate Ears and Shures? → Read More

The iPod shuffle playback control chart

So…Apple. The headphone debate rages on and so far there hasn’t been many fanboys speaking up defending the proprietary headphone system. But also lets not forget that the new shuffle employes controls confusing enough that it warrants a large chart (after the jump) to explain simple playback controls. Sometimes change is hard, but is often a gateway to a better process. Other times that’s not the case. → Read More

A modest proposal: Radio DJs should sue Apple

In the proud tradition of the Authors Guild, we at CrunchGear have made a startling discovery. The new iPod Shuffle from Apple can speak the title and artist currently playing, a feature that could put millions of radio DJs out of work. The hard work and dedication to craft that brings us “Single Ladies” by Beyonce four times an hour on local stations everywhere can now be replaced by a silver box the size of a suppository. → Read More

Apple goes retro with latest iPod Shuffle

When the Apple store went down this morning, there were rumors swirling that a new iPod Shuffle would appear when it went live; those rumors were right. The latest iPod shuffle comes equipped with 4GB of memory priced at $79.99 and a sleek case that’s reminiscent of the first generation. Best of all, the shuffle now speaks the name and performer of the song since there still isn’t a screen on the least expensive iPod. Expect the new iPod to ship 3-5 business days after purchase.

Apple Supports Breast Cancer Research With Pink iPod Shuffle

I wasn’t aware that Apple was doing anything to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, but it doesn’t surprise me, though. The pink Shuffles have surfaced at Target stores across the country. This particular one was captured in Santa Maria, CA and includes a $15 iTunes store gift card, but it’s still $79! Anyone else seen a pink Shuffle at your local Target? We don’t have any here in Manhattan. Special Edition iPod shuffle Appears at Target Stores [iPod Observer] → Read More
