Samsung’s Smart TV Can “Listen, See, And Do” No Evil

scaled.IMG_5463

We’re live here at Samsung’s live press conference at CES International 2012, and Samsung is introducing a new Smart TV with the ability to “listen, see, and do” what it wants, without ever touching the remote control. The idea is that the TV will get smarter the longer you own it, presumably through updates, eliminating the need for you to buy a new TV to keep up pace.

Back in 2008, Samsung introduced its first Smart TV. Today, things look very different. For one, the new Smart LED TV’s have dual core processors, and something you’ve grown accustomed to on just about any other electronics device: multitasking. → Read More

Samsung Sells 2 TVs Per Second, Plans Huge Smart TV Push

scaledwm-4956

Samsung has maintained its lead as the number one TV maker, selling 5.7 million units in November or about 2 TVs per second. Samsung is also making a major push into the Smart TV space, creating an “Evolution Kit” that will update your TV every year, upgrading it from dual core to quad core, adding new features, and improving performance. It’s like buying a new TV every year (something Samsung likes) and ensures your TV won’t become obsolete (which consumers like).

The Samsung Note Is Definitively Not Coming To AT&T As Far As You Know

pink_flip_flop

Remember the mini-slate Samsung released a few months ago? The Samsung Galaxy Note? Pretty cool little device. As we enter CES week, the press releases are flying fast and furious and this one caught my eye. It’s for a small company that makes accessories for gadgets and I suppose (I can’t find the original) it outlined Anymode’s plans for Samsung Note accessories.

The release also noted that the Samsung Note would hit AT&T this year. There were rumors of this, but Anymode essentially confirmed it. Until they didn’t. → Read More

Online Ad Confirms A Sprint-Bound Galaxy Nexus (Update: With 1.5GHz Processor)

sprintnexus2

Well that was… timely. It was just a little while ago that Sprint CEO Dan Hesse dropped some details about his company’s forthcoming network, and now a Sprint Galaxy Nexus ad has just appeared on CNET’s website.

If this ad proves to be legitimate (and I’ve got all my fingers crossed), Sprint customers may truly be rewarded for their patience. Hovering over the bottom right touchpoint reveals a very tantalizing tidbit: Sprint’s variant will apparently have a 1.5GHz processor instead of the 1.2GHz proc as seen in the international and Verizon models. Wow. → Read More

The Samsung DA-E750 Is A Speaker Dock For Wannabe Audiophiles

image001 (2)

There is a surefire way to improve the look and feel of any audio device: add vacuum tubes. These ancient electronic valves drip with nostalgia. Traditionally only high-end analog audio devices employ vacuum tubes as audio nerds proclaim they produce a richer, warmer sound. But Samsung is smart. They know that simply adding several trivial vacuum tubes to an otherwise mundane wireless speaker will increase its appeal (and justify a higher price tag). It’s working on this wannabe audiophile. I want this speaker. → Read More

Samsung’s DV300F Dual-View Camera Brings WiFi Into The Mix

samsungdv300f

Many of you may remember that I was straight-up infatuated with Samsung’s MV800 point-and-shoot. And why wouldn’t I be? It’s absolutely the best point-and-shoot if your favorite subject to shoot happens to be yourself.

While Samsung’s latest camera isn’t quite as narcissistic, the new DV300F announced today still has a pretty awesome trick up its sleeve. → Read More

Samsung Ships 1 Million Galaxy Note Phablets

galaxynote

When we first heard about Samsung’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, we didn’t really know what to do with it. Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? Oh, look! A stylus!

It was weird.

But apparently people like weird, as Samsung is now reporting that it’s shipped over 1 million Galaxy Note phablets globally. The device launched back in September, and devices shipped is normally a higher number than the devices actually out in the real world, but it’s still a solid number nonetheless. → Read More

5 Japanese Tech Companies (And Samsung) Set Up LTE Mobile Chip Venture

LG_Optimus_LTE_Launch_in_Japan_5001

Big news from Asia’s mobile market today: Japan’s biggest mobile carrier NTT Docomo (55 million customers, over US$50 billion in sales per year) is teaming up with five other tech powerhouses to develop chips for next-generation mobile devices. Docomo’s partners are NEC, Fujitsu, Fujitsu Semiconductor Ltd., Panasonic, and Samsung.

The goal is to use synergies in the six companies’ expertise in developing small and eco-efficient chips to supply to mobile device manufacturers in Japan, Korea, and other places. Docomo says the main focus will be on “products for LTE and LTE-Advanced mobile communication standards”. → Read More

Sony Exits LCD Joint Venture With Samsung

6_sony_logo_w

S-LCD Co., the joint venture for making LCDs for TVs between Sony and Samsung, will soon be history. The Japanese company today announced it will exit the 50-50 venture by selling its share to the Korean rival for US$940 million, after seven years of collaboration.

After inking a final agreement, Samsung is ready to absorb the South Korea-based joint venture into its existing LCD business and turn it into a 100% subsidiary. Samsung’s LCD business will then be the second-largest in the world by revenue, trailing only LG Display. → Read More

No Ice Cream Sandwich For Galaxy S And Galaxy Tab, Says Samsung

Image (1) GalaxyS-4variants.jpg for post 193258

Sorry Galaxy S owners — even though your device has a near-identical spec sheet to the ICS-friendly Nexus S, Samsung has announced on their corporate blog that the company’s first Galaxy device won’t be getting the offical bump to Android 4.0.

The original Galaxy S isn’t the only one to get the snub, as the 7-inch Galaxy Tab won’t be able to join in the fun either.

It looks like TouchWiz deserves most of the blame here — according to Samsung Tomorrow, neither device has enough RAM or ROM to accomodate TouchWiz and all of its Samsung-designed accoutrements without affecting the quality of use. → Read More

Samsung Teases Android-Controlled Smart TVs For CES 2012

thang

Smart HDTVs will be a big trend at CES 2012. Nearly every major brand will release major updates to existing lines along with completely new products. However, Samsung has long sold a successful line of smart TVs, but a just-released CES 2012 teaser video shows the upcoming models will be a bit different. They’re going to ditch remotes. These HDTVs look to be controlled by mobile devices. → Read More

T-Mobile’s White Samsung Galaxy S II Is Going For $99 This Weekend Only

White SGSII

The Samsung Galaxy S II is a very special phone. Even though it’s been on the market for quite some time now, it’s still one of the more beastly competitors on Android-flavored shelves.

Of course, it’s always had the price tag to prove it, going for between $230 and $250 just about everywhere. But T-Mobile has a pretty sweet deal going on a white Samsung Galaxy S II for this weekend only, and it could save you up to $130. → Read More
