The Canon G series has been a fan favorite. The cameras in that series constantly offer near-DSLR performance in a compact size, but Nikon has so far not been able to produce such a product. The upcoming P7000 seems to be worthy of the title of G series fighter. Nikon has yet to announce the pocket cam, but DPreview got an earlier look at the cam and apparently published and then pulled their post. You’re in luck, though. → Read More
So your local camera store doesn’t have what you are looking for, you don’t want to visit a big box store, and you’re concerned about the shady practices of some online retailers? Well worry no longer – Nikon has launched their own online store, with (most) of their products available for purchase direct. There’s even an outlet store if you want pick something up at a discount. → Read More
Nikon has always been fairly closed mouth about exactly who makes their sensors, but it’s been standard knowledge that they are made by Sony. The rumor is that Nikon has started developing (and possibly manufacturing) their own sensors. If this rumor is true, this would mark a departure for Nikon. The first clues to this popped up in marketing materiels, with the D3100 being labeled as having a “Nikon Developed” sensor. This clue was picked up on by photographer and instructor Thom Hogan, who was later able to confirm this via various contacts at Nikon. Sony did announced a few months ago they weren’t going to be producing full frame senors any more, so that could be part of what brought on this change by Nikon. [via Nikon Rumors] → Read More
If you’ve been following the rumors about the Nikon D3100, you pretty much know all there is to know. Early reports were dead-on regarding new features, specs, and even the day of the announcement.
The D3100 is a long-overdue update to Nikon’s consumer DSLR, putting it on equal footing with Canon’s excellent T2i — if not outdoing it. → Read More
Nikon broke the stale mold generally used in digital cameras with the Coolpix S1000pj projector camera last year. Instead of having just a boring lens and LCD screen, this bad boy comes with a front-firing pico projector for sharing the camera’s pics and videos. But that’s where the fun stops with the first generation. The pico projector was limited to viewing on-camera material only. But Nikon isn’t done with the form factor. Oh no. The second generation takes it up a notch and actually makes the pico projector a bit more practical. The S1100pj can project content from your computer. noice → Read More
Pocket cams are just getting better and better. The just-announced Nikon Coolpix S5100 seems as loaded as anyone could want. Inside the sleek casing is a 12.2MP senor, 4-way VR lens, a 720p@30 movie mode, and even a tripod detection mode that automatically knows when the camera is mounted and selects the appropriate exposure, ISO, and shutter speed. Bright colors, a 2.7-inch LCD and 5X zoom will likely draw in shoppers where the low $179 MSRP closes the deal. October 2010. → Read More
The German magazine that leaked the D3100 info also spilled on two of the new Coolpix models. The Coolpix S1100pj apparently will have a projector, touchscreen, remote control, and “several other improvements”. The European market will pay about €350. The Coolpix S5100 is a 12 megapixel, 28-140mm point and shoot, and will sell for about €170 on the other side of the Atlantic. Not as exciting as that other stuff, but hey. → Read More
Rumors have been flying left and right about Nikon’s upcoming cams. The word around the tubes is that both the D90 and D3000 are getting a refresh real soon. We supposedly saw the specs for the D90 replacement last week and now a German magazine published with what they claim are the D3100 specs. Hopefully it’s not twisted joke because these specs would make the D3100 one hell of a camera. → Read More
Not to be outdone by the other camera manufacturers, Nikon has been working on an EVIL camera (Canon is already evil, so they haven’t come out with one yet), and we’re finally getting a peek at it. Admittedly, the peek is line drawing and technical specs from a patent application, but it is a peek none the less. Nikon Rumors found the patent applications while looking at Japan’s online patent office, so make sure you allow for some possible translation errors. Check out the details after the jump. → Read More
We’re expecting to get official word on the D3100 next month; Nikon is currently planning a press event the week of August 16th-20th in Europe, which is pretty typical. It’s expected that there will be two events, one to announce the launch of new Coolpix cameras, and one to announce the launch of the previously rumored D3100, as well as some new lens. More details after the jump. → Read More
No idea if this is an actual licensed product, but it certainly looks cool. I’ll admit, when then the Canon mugs came out last winter I was jealous. I’m not a Canon guy, so I just resigned myself to the fact that I’d probably never have one. Then some popped up on ebay, but in a really limited run. I missed out on those too. → Read More
This is strictly a rumor at this point, but the replacement for the D90 is looking interesting. Nikon Rumors got a whisper of the basic stats, and here’s what we’ve got: 16MP DX Sensor Noise reduction algorithm from the D700 Full HD video capabilites (1080p?) Video auto-focus capability Body made partly from aluminium Again, we don’t know for sure that this is true, but given the direction that Nikon has been going, I think it’s probably pretty safe to accept this as true. → Read More
We’re calling this one a rumor, but it’s pretty much confirmed. Nikon is expected to announce their newest models at Photokina, but there’s always leaks before the show. Word got out a few months ago that Nikon was going to release a new entry level DSLR this year, something between the D3000 and D5000. The previous rumor was that it was going to be called the D4000, but that appears to be false. → Read More
The D90, Nikon’s popular and versatile enthusiast DSLR, may be approaching the end of its lifespan. It was leaked in August of 2008 and has been a solid contender ever since, despite having some serious skew on its video. And now, almost two years later, it appears to be being pulled from retail shelves in order to make room for a successor. It is whispered that this successor will be announced at Photokina in late September. Chances are we’ll see bits and pieces of it before then, just like last time. This is all unconfirmed, but stay tuned. Confirmed: Nikon Rumors reports that one of the major retailers took the first step, and marked it as a clearance item, with limited availability. So long to a great camera. → Read More
Nikon diehards were no doubt a tad jealous when the Canon coffee mug broke cover earlier this year. But their wait is over. A preoder just went up on ebay for 8 Nikon lens mugs, although the buyers will have to wait until the end of June or mid of July before they can finally look as cool as their Canon counterparts. $50. You really don’t need to know anything about the lens to appreciate it. It’s eff’n gorgeous. Mir.com has you covered just case you want the technical details and whatnot about the lens. → Read More
Nikon’s next generation D4x should be arriving in the next year or so, and it’s always fun to speculate what it will look like. I doubt this is even close, honestly. It is fun to see what industrial designers can come up with when they play though. Keep in mind this is not a actual Nikon design, but rather a speculation on what direction they could go in. → Read More
Patents are always so much fun, and such a source of random speculation. Take for example this new LCD display from Nikon. What could it be? Is it for a DLSR? Maybe for video? No one knows, and of course Nikon isn’t talking, but it’s interesting to put your best guess out there. → Read More
Geotagging is pretty popular these days, but for the most part you have to buy an additional hardware. JOBO makes one such device, the photoGPS, that’s been around for a while. They just announced two new versions, photoGPS 2 and the photoGPS 4. The new models offer improved reception, battery life, and storage. All in all a worthy successor to their original product. → Read More
New Nikon DSLRs… that wouldn’t be much of a rumor — of course they’re coming. But this rumor has specs! Things! Being! Rumored! It’s exciting! So what have we here… three new cameras coming? So exciting. → Read More
