Somewhere deep in the bowels of Logitech, a committee, attempting to think outside of the box, created a box. It’s called the Cube (even though it’s clearly not a cube) and it’s a mouse. And a presenter. I think.

The tiny mouse is designed with portability in mind. The top portion houses two hidden mouse buttons and also a portion for scrolling. To scroll “swipe your finger along the main panel,” says the press release. Then if you lift the mouse up, it turns into a presenter allowing the user to advance slides by just click the top of the device. The Cube connects to a computer though Logitech’s tiny Unifying 2.4 GHz receiver. Or, if you wish, the mouse can also connect via MicroUSB.

Look for the Logitech Cube this month at a suggested retail price of $69.99. Hopefully the device is a bit more comfy than the geometric shape suggests. It looks like arthritis to me.

The upcoming MW3 G105 gaming keyboard and G9X gaming mouse will cost the same as their standard counterparts. A move that is consumer-friendly and, at the same time, rather scary.

The G105 gaming keyboard hits with backlit keys, anti-ghosting technology, and six so-called G buttons for macro commands. The G9x gaming mouse isn’t exactly new. This mouse is a staple of Logitech’s gaming offering with interchangeable grips, swappable weights and on-board memory. The G105 is available now for $79.99 while the G9x should hit stores early next month. These prices are surprisingly the same as the standard version, which states that Logitech is walking a dangerous path. It’s hard to turn back once you journey down the road of sponsorship. Here’s hoping that this MW3 gear is a one-off thing and Logitech isn’t planning anymore. The last thing I want to see from Logitech is mice with NHL logos and Sesame Street keyboards.

The MX 3200 Laser keyboard and mouse are an awesome example, as Logitech said the combo pack was built using an AgION surface meant to disrupt the growth of bacterial cells.

Not a bad idea at all, but the way that Logitech marketed the MX 3200 Laser didn’t please the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency one bit.

According to the Register, Logitech made claims that the keyboard would protect against microbes and bacteria, which has earned the company a six-figure fine. “Unverified public health claims can lead people to believe they are protected from disease-causing organisms when, in fact, they are not,” said the EPA’s regional administrator for the Pacific Southwest Jared Blumenfeld.

The AgION silver compound was found by the EPA to be a preservative, not an actively anti-microbial. I’m no science whiz, but that basically means the user is protected against the growth of mold and mildew on the device, rather than from microbes. As a result, Logitech is being fined $261,000 for making unsubstantiated public health claims.

Logitech’s Harmony division has long made some of the very best universal remotes. But their latest product turns the very best smartphones and tablets into a great universal remote. Meet Harmony Link and the Harmony Link App.

The Harmony Link hardware is a disc that’s placed near your entertainment system and provides the link between the new controller and the equipment using a local WiFi network. Tiny IR Blasters snake from the backside of the sleek disc to your cable box, TV and A/V hardware — just like every other Harmony remote. This not only facilitates communication but also allows owners to place all the unsightly hardware in a closet, enclosed cabinet, or like in my house, a basement room underneath the living room. Logitech says the Harmony Link can replace up to eight remotes.

But this hardware isn’t the fun part. Nope, the real magic comes from the iPad app.

The Harmony Link App turns the iPad into a universal remote, but one with a touch of flare. Instead of just being a touchscreen remote with the usual assortment of playback controls, the iPad app turns the chore of finding a TV program into a fun excursion. Slide through the interactive TV listings and just press Watch Now to engage the magic of Harmony Link, which will switch your TV to the appropriate station. Of course the app also features all the normal device controls and activity functions generally associated with Harmony remotes.

At launch, only the iPad will feature this interactive programming guide. The iPhone and Android app will only display activity buttons and device controls. Expect the Harmony Link in stores next month with a $99 MSRP.

The Wireless Trackpad doesn't have the magic repertoire of the Apple counterpart, but the new Logitech product seemingly has enough parlor tricks to get job done and on a Windows computer no less.

It's hard to ignore the similarities of the Logitech Wireless Touchpad and the Apple Magic Trackpad, therefore it's equally hard to ignore past posts. You see, per MG, the mouse's days are numbered, but apparently, since his infamous posts declaring the traditional mouse's death by Apple was published well over a year ago, the venerable mouse must be dying a slow, comfortable death. No, the mouse isn't exactly dead, but MG was right by declaring the Magic Mouse a harbinger foretelling our computing future. Logitech clearly drew inspiration from Apple for the Wireless Touchpad, but that’s fine in my book.
It’s hard to ignore the similarities of the Logitech Wireless Touchpad and the Apple Magic Trackpad, therefore it’s equally hard to ignore past posts. You see, per MG, the mouse’s days are numbered, but apparently, since his infamous posts declaring the traditional mouse’s death by Apple was published well over a year ago, the venerable mouse must be dying a slow, comfortable death. No, the mouse isn’t exactly dead, but MG was right by declaring the Magic Mouse a harbinger foretelling our computing future. I guess the future is here.

Much like with the Apple Magic Trackpad, the Logitech Wireless Trackpad allows for four-finger multitouch for easier navigation, scrolling, jumping tabs, and switching apps. However, unlike with the Apple version, these functions are not built into the OS so the device may not function as well for anything but those everyday tasks.

The Logitech Wireless Trackpad works through Logitech’s fantastic 2.4GHz Unifying receiver that allows for a total of five wireless Logitech devices including mice and keyboards. Plug in the little USB receiver and let the multitouch fun begin.

The Wireless Trackpad features standard Logitech dress. It’s plastic, but like all the rest of Logitech’s products, it looks and feels great but not as fantastic as the aluminum Apple Magic Trackpad. Logitech states that a single AA battery will provide four months of use and thankfully built-in convenient LED battery indicators. Expect the Wireless Trackpad later this month in both American and European retailers for $50.

The mouse isn’t dead yet despite MG’s claims. The Apple Magic Trackpad might have singled its decline but not any more than the rise of slate devices. The traditional PC as a whole is dying quicker than these desktop trackpad input devices can overtake mice. That said, the Apple Trackpad was an instant hit with the Apple crowd because Mac notebooks have fantastic (read: the best) trackpads out of any notebook and users wanted that control scheme on their desktop. Windows notebooks aren’t that lucky and owners often suffer from horrible, horrible trackpad experiences most often caused by poor drivers.

Logitech has the right idea with the Wireless Trackpad, but here’s hoping that Windows, drivers, or 3rd party software doesn’t kill the dream.

Logitech today announced its next-gen G-series gaming mouse, the G300, and if this thing doesn’t give you a competitive edge, you need to spend more time practicing. With nine customizable controls, you may not have to use the keyboard at all, meaning all the control you could want rests nicely under the palm of your hand.

Because it’s ambidextrous, this is Logitech’s first mouse without thumb controls. Both rightys and leftys can play with the same level of control. The G300 mouse lets you customize up to three different player profiles, too. So let’s say you play Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 interchangeably. You can set the color of the mouse to red for one control customization, and green for another, so that you don’t start using Modern Warfare controls when you’re playing Bad Company. There are seven different color options.

The G300 touts a 2500-DPI optical sensor that tracks both slow and fast movements, and the mouse works well on a number of surfaces. I got to play around with the G300 a bit and felt that it truly is pretty comfortable in either hand. Plus, it comes with optional drag-and-drop software that not only lets you set up your G300 mouse, but lets you connect to other Logitech products like the G-series keyboards and headsets. From there you can set up macros to be shared across all the devices.

In terms of pricing and availability, the G300 will go for an MSRP of $39.99, and will be available across the U.S. and Europe in September.

Your keyboard case has finally arrived. The Logitech Keyboard Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a long product name for what is popularly called a Zagg Case. Let’s not get caught up in the manufacturing design details, but this keyboard case carries a Logitech badge and per the product page, is a Zagg product. The branding is just like Logitech’s iPad 2 keyboard case. In fact this product is almost an exact copy of the iPad version. It’s just designed to work with the GalTab 10.1 instead.

The keyboard case connects with the GalTab 10.1 over Bluetooth and features quick access keys above the chiclet keyboard. The case itself snaps onto the tablet, providing a good degree of protection while neatly storing itself.

Pricing is inline with the iPad 2 version with a $99 MSRP. Of course you need a Galaxy 10.1 to go along with it, which is becoming rather difficult in Australia and Europe. The product page just went live, but as of this post’s writing, the large “Preorder Now” button directs you to Logitech’s homepage. That will likely be fixed shortly and will allow anxious buyers to slap down their credit card to be added to the waiting list.

Update: The pre-order link now works properly. Huzzah!

This is BETA, it is not meant to be widely used and has bugs. If that’s something you don’t care about and would like to risk it anyway, install the update. Also, If you want to help Logitech and Google out buy another Revue ( preferably from logitech.com ), at $99 its worth every penny.

What does this add? Not much, yet, but the media player seems to be able to play more formats and Netflix doesn’t work. You can also install apps from the Android Market. Maybe you should just pick up the $99 device and wait for the update and, rest assured, it works and we like it.

Logitech somewhat signaled the end of the platform’s life today but slashing the price of the Revue unit down to $100. This comes just months after the CEO stated with its 2010 Q4 earnings that they are enthusiastic about Google TV even with just 5 million in sales during last the last holiday season. Today’s price cut states loud and clear that Google TV is on its last legs and one of its launch partners is trying everything to get rid of back inventory.

Google TV launched as a typical Google product. I called it half-baked as it felt like a beta product. Then back in May, Google demo’d the next-gen version at I/O and promised that it would be out sometime within the summer. I also spoke to the Google TV team earlier this year and when asked about the Android Market, they indicated it would be out by the end of the year. Both of those items are confirmed for a summer launch within Logitech’s financial statement and couldn’t come at a better time. The Revue is bleeding Logitech dry.

Logitech posted its Q1 financials today and the company’s Google TV unit was a popular discussion point mainly because of its dismal performance. The company as a whole posted a net loss of $30M, caused in part by the Revue. Apparently the company saw more returns than sales of the Revue during the first quarter, which prompted today’s price cut from $249 to $99. Deeper within the report, Logitech notes that the massive Revue price cut cost the company some $34 million, but will better position the unit within the market and hopefully help with the 13% increase of on-hand inventory caused by unsold Revues.

Logitech took a risk with Google by being one of two Google TV launch partners. As the other partner, Sony launched a Google TV HDTV and Blu-ray player at the same time as the Revue and continued to show support for the platform with a huge Google TV display booth at CES. All three products had a fair amount of hype before they launched, but then big media quickly killed the buzz by restricting access to all the online viewing locations.

Google TV promised the world and delivered it. The world just wasn’t ready. The original intent of Google TV sitting between a cable box and your TV to serve as a universal search tool and online streamer is genius. It was never supposed to replace cable. It worked as advertised until big media pulled back their cards. So here’s Google TV, sitting here as an irrelevant product, crippled by the very source of content it was trying to promote all while Logitech is in the corner rocking back and forth with its head between its knees.

It’s the C615, and I’m having trouble figuring out just how it works. Obviously you can put it on a tripod if you want, but I think it can contort to grip your screen as well, then spin its little head around 360 degrees to face wherever you want it. It also has a tripod mount for your tripodding pleasure.

The sensor can do 1080p, but it’ll slum it at 720p if that’s all your video chat client can handle. It’s autofocus as well, hopefully a little faster than Microsoft’s. The 8-megapixel images it takes are “software enhanced,” which seems either redundant to say (since you’re taking the picture on your computer) or ominous (smoothing, auto-leveling).

This thing will go for $80. It’s Mac and PC compatible, plain old USB style.

Logitech Transforms Places You Use Your iPad or Android Tablet with Lineup of Accessories

Introduces Range of Products Including New Logitech Keyboard Case, Logitech Wireless Speaker, Logitech Tablet Keyboard, Logitech Tablet Mouse

FREMONT, Calif. – May 19, 2011 -Today Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) unveiled a line of iPad and Android-based tablet accessories that enable you to make the most of your tablet, no matter how or where you use it.

“People love their tablets – the category is growing quickly and is here to stay,” said Azmat Ali, Logitech senior director for tablet products. “We’ve created a great lineup of products for tablet users, and it’s just the beginning. Over the coming months you can expect to see additional products for iPad® and Android™ tablets that are designed to help people create, consume and communicate.”

Encompassing products for both iPad and Android-based tablets, the new lineup from Logitech features a wide range of accessories – from keyboards to speakers – that help create the perfect environment for your tablet. Whether you want to use your tablet to catch up with friends on Facebook®, post quick updates to your blog, or share your favorite music – Logitech has a product for you.

Highlights of Logitech’s new lineup of tablet accessories include:

Logitech Keyboard Case

Created in collaboration with ZAGG®, the latest Logitech® Keyboard Case features the same sleek aluminum cover with military-grade, high-density padding as Logitech’s previously announced version. The protective case wraps around the iPad 2 to cover the screen and sides, and the Logitech Keyboard Case uses Bluetooth® connectivity to pair the keyboard quickly and easily. The new Logitech Keyboard Case incorporates a more intuitive keyboard layout and improved keystrokes for even more comfortable typing. It also adds a recess just behind the keyboard that props up an iPad 2 in portrait or landscape mode, virtually eliminating setup and packup time.

Logitech Wireless Speaker

When you want to share your favorite music, the Logitech® Wireless Speaker is a great choice. It eliminates cables and lets you place your speaker wherever you want – up to 50 feet away from your iPad or Android tablet depending on use, settings and environmental conditions. And you’ll get rich, full stereo sound – even from across the room – with your speaker’s dual two-inch drivers and plenty of bass. A rechargeable battery powers your speaker for up to 10 hours depending on your use and settings-so you can take your music with you wherever you go. And setup couldn’t be easier. Just pair with your tablet using Bluetooth wireless, and you are ready to listen.

Logitech Tablet Keyboard

The Logitech® Tablet Keyboard, a keyboard-and-stand combo, comes in two versions, one for Android-based tablets and a second for iPads, and is designed to travel easily, set up quickly and add a touch of convenience to all the places you use your tablet. It pairs easily with your tablet over Bluetooth wireless, so you can use it on your desk, lap or anywhere within 30 feet of your tablet, depending on use, settings and environmental conditions.

Logitech Tablet Mouse

A perfect companion to the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android, the Logitech® Tablet Mouse pairs with your Android-based tablet using Bluetooth, and offers smooth, accurate laser tracking, and side-to-side scrolling. The Logitech Tablet Mouse is designed specifically to work with tablets running the recently announced Android™ 3.1 (Honeycomb) platform.

Information about these products and additional accessories for iPad and Android-based tablets, including speaker docks, headphones, wireless speakers, keyboards and mice, is available on the tablets accessories page of Logitech’s website.

Logitech Alert Brings HD Video Security to the iPad

Logitech Alert App for iPad Offers Remote Viewing and Management of Logitech Alert Digital Home Security

FREMONT, Calif. — April 13, 2011 — To help you keep tabs on your home or office anytime, anywhere, Logitech® (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today introduced the Logitech Alert™ app for iPad®. One of a family of apps Logitech is developing for the iPad, Logitech’s newest app makes it easy for you to access your Logitech Alert™ digital video security system from any place you take your favorite tablet.
“The Logitech Alert app for the iPad was designed to be a true mobile extension of the Logitech Alert HD video security system, and delivers on our goal to help you protect what matters most anytime, anywhere,” said James Lopez, general manager of digital video security for Logitech. “The Logitech Alert app for the iPad enhances our digital video security system by bringing users brilliant and clear HD video combined with rich audio for monitoring on the go.”

Remote Access and Alert Management

Adding to the Logitech Alert family of DIY home security cameras and software, the Logitech Alert app for iPad is one of the first iPad apps developed strictly for tablet-based HD digital video surveillance.
With the Logitech Alert app for iPad, it’s quick and easy to check up on your home or small business by simply using the Logitech Alert app for iPad. The app connects to your cameras anytime, so you can watch the live video and hear the audio coming from your cameras. If you have the Logitech Alert™ Web and Mobile Commander service you can also view video recordings captured when motion was detected and manage system settings, including turning on motion alerts from your iPad.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Alert app for iPad providing free, live monitoring is expected to be available in the U.S., Europe and Asia in the Apple App Store at no charge beginning April 12, 2011. All of us at CrunchGear can testify that Logitech makes solid audio gear. The Z623s are a good deal, the G35 headset is a monster, and Greg says he’s been using the Z5500 5.1 system happily for several years now. Well, Logitech’s new Z906 is meant to replace that last one: it’s a brand-new 500-watt 5.1 system selling for the <del datetime="2011-03-10T19:01:37+00:00">totally reasonable price of $350</del> not quite as reasonable but still okay price of $400 (initial press release info was wrong).

To be honest, I doubt the sound is really much different from its predecessor. The new gear is nicer looking, though, and the remote and info display have been simplified. The subwoofer is 165 watts, each satellite has 67, and it’s got six channels of input (RCA, digital optical or coaxial, 3.5mm). It’ll handle Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS, and will virtualize 2-channel sound, though we all know that’s hit or miss. They’re THX-certified, but so’s your mom these days.

Greg’s going to be reviewing this guy as soon as it’s shipping (should be this month), so hang tight and we’ll let you know whether it’s worth spending your hard-earned GP on.

Cisco has long dominated the enterprise video conferencing world, but Logitech wants to change that. Logitech currently does video conferencing with their own version called the LifeSize video streaming system. As more and more business profressionals are skipping the airplanes and going for teleconferencing, Logitech sees an opportunity to gain some market share. And due the the large user base of iDevices in business, Logitech is going to support conferencing on iPads and iPhones first.

Logitech currently uses its LifeSize Video Center device for sending live and streaming video such as training sessions and company meetings to employees. Getting a web streaming service to run on an iDevice isn’t too hard. All they really had to do was tweak some software to recognize iDevices on the stream and adjust the bit rate for them. Right now, there wasn’t a mention if they web app would become a standalone app some day.

Currently, the app only supports one-way video conferencing. In order to be on camera, customers have to purchase a LifeSize endpoint such as the LifeSize 220. This could be a really neat thing for enterprise to catch up with the rest of the world. We’ve had Skype for how long now?

Your guy is great, am I right? He's fun, he makes you laugh, and he can, in a pinch, be counted on to do laundry. He even, occasionally, shaves! Why not reward this positive behavior the way Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, rewards an unruly dog: through forceful direction and, when the time is right, kind words and a treat.

Here are a few great items for your geeky SO this Valentine's Day and we've tried to find items that you can pick up in the next few days. While it's always nice just to go out for dinner and a movie, why not make this year a bit more special?

Here are a few great items for your geeky SO this Valentine’s Day and we’ve tried to find items that you can pick up in the next few days. While it’s always nice just to go out for dinner and a movie, why not make this year a bit more special?

Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool – Every man needs a multi-tool. These things have screwdrivers, knives, and pliers stuck in a package about as big as a candy bar and they never, ever break. He’ll have this for years and every time he strips a wire or whittles down a shim, he’ll think of you. (About $80)

Louis CK’s Hilarious – Nicholas turned the entire team onto Louis CK and we all agree that he’s the best living comic out there today. His rant on cellphones and airplanes is hilarious and this movie is wild. Don’t want it on DVD? Grab it from Netflix or download it from iTunes. The best thing? You can watch it together.

WickedLasers Spyder III Pro Arctic Series – This laser goes all the way up. WickedLasers makes some crazy stuff and this amazing laser is no exception. Your lad can pop balloons, paint imaginary bombing targets, and generally freak everyone out during pub quiz. ($299.95)

Keyport Slide – It doesn’t really matter if your man has as one key or six, the Keyport Slide doesn’t care. It holds them all in a state of readiness. The latest version even ships with a flash drive and bottle opener. It’s a tad bit more expensive than a keyring at $79.99, but style doesn’t come free.

Dydo Hot Cake Mix Drink ~ Pancake Essence Beverage – If your SO is a foodie, this might be the best present in the world. It’s a drink that tastes like pancakes. Add in some Pepper Bacon Doritos Twists (about $10) and you’ve got breakfast. Barring that, pick him up a beer brewing kit ($116) from Northern Brewer or a set of ceramic knives from Kyocera ($79).

Logitech K800 – I’ve fallen in love with this ultra-thin, ultra-nice backlit wireless keyboard. The K800 has a full numerica keypad, a rechargable battery that lasts for ever, and it works with Macs (After a bit of hacking). ($99)

A Gift Card – Why worry about the fuss and muss of buying a real item? Head over to ThinkGeek or Adafruit Industries to get him a gift certificate for some real geek gear.

Extra Super Expensive Idea

A Makerbot Thing-o-Matic – This thing is a bit expensive and it takes a while to deliver, but if your man is a Maker then he may get a huge kick out of this. It’s a machine that builds parts out of extruded plastic and it’s literally amazing. If your guy already has everything, this will allow him to make everything. ($1,225)

And finally, by unanimous decision, The Ultimate Best Valentine’s Present

An All Guys Star Wars/LOTR/Whatever Marathon

1. Ensure he gets you something nice for V-Day. Confirm receipt and then explain to him what’s going to happen next.
2. Buy a lot of beer, chips, microwavable foods and a full set of his favorite movie. Invite a bunch of his friends over. Sit them on the couch for 12 hours. Leave.
3. ????
4. Return home to enjoy the company of the happiest man on Earth.
