In this episode of my Foundation video series, I talk with Jawbone CEO and Founder Hosain Rahman. Hosain and I discuss the entrepreneurial environment at Stanford in the 1990’s, The Jetsons as design inspiration, and how his meeting with Steve Jobs shaped the future of Jawbone’s first product designs. → Read More
The future of technology software is contingent upon the capabilities of the hardware that it powers. That’s why Jawbone, a company that makes pretty and pretty useful hardware like the Jawbone UP, the Jawbone ERA and the Jambox speaker is on my shortlist for startups that will be huge huge huge in 2012 — despite some notable bumps along the way. → Read More
All of the dudes in our office (okay, only Rahul) want one of these UP bracelet things. Apparently they use your wrist movements to determine how healthy you are, and then constantly judge you graphing your healthstyle against your friends’. Because I am insatiably curious and extremely health conscious, I swear, I took Jawbone founder Hosain Rahman aside earlier this week and asked him to show me… → Read More
My, what big eyes you have Jawbone! It hasn’t even been four months since the consumer electronics company closed its $49 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz and already it’s making funding news again.
Jawbone has raised another round of growth funding, this time it’s $70 million from a group of unnamed investors advised by JP Morgan Asset Management. This brings the total raised so far… → Read More
Jawbone, the company most known for its headsets seen on the terminally hip kid to your left, has raised $49 million from Andreessen Horowitz to continue to build new devices to take advantage of the smart phone/mobile Web boom. Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz invested in Jawbone as angel investors back in 2007, and CEO Hosain Rahman credits Horowitz as one of his most important mentors. Finally… → Read More
Nuance is one of those companies you may not have heard of, but likely use. They’re the leaders in voice recognition technology for text-to-speech and speech-to-text. Most devices that have voice recognition — iPhone, MyFord Touch, Dragon Dictate — are powered by Nuance. Jawbone teamed up with Nuance to get text-to-speech on their new ERA headset.

Jawbone Jambox. Jawbone Jambox. Jawbone Jambox. Try saying it 10 times fast — if you get anywhere close, you’re doing better than me.
Aliph (known for their high-end Jawbone Bluetooth headsets) just announced their newest product venture: high-end Bluetooth Speakers. They were nice enough to swing me a review unit a few hours early. The downside: I’ve been saying and writing “Jawbone Jambox”… → Read More
WAZZZUP! We are totally raging this weekend. We are going to Sharkey’s first and then Paul is having a hot tub party with you know who. Yeah! Her and like fifty of her friends! Broseph! I know! Aw man, I went totally speed skating yesterday. Yeah, dude, I wear a unitard and get up to like 40 miles an hour. Naw, I’m in training for the championships in Hawaii. Naw. That’s just… → Read More
Bluetooth headsets usually don’t look very exciting, but the Jawbone series is generally a bit more tasteful then a lump of plastic you stick in your ear. Aliph just launched their new ICON line, which adds some extra features to make their headset stand out. → Read More
Here it is. The funny thing is that this melted Jawbone headset still has more sex appeal than other non-melted Bluetooth headsets. The story goes that the headset started smoking while charging and kept smoking even when removed from the charger. The pic above is after the owner doused it with water. No word from Aliph support yet. Recall imminent? → Read More
The newish Jawbone is one of the hottest Bluetooth headsets on the market and two new color options are going to be available at Best Buy. Previously, the color palette was limited to black, silver and gold; or as Jawbone likes to call ‘em: Blah Blah Black, Silver Tongue, and Goldy Lips. The new color options of Babbling Blue and Rambling Rose are going to carry the same $139.99 price as… → Read More
Our own Devin Coldewey models the new Jawbone. Everyone is all a tizzy over the new Jawbone. It’s 50% smaller than the old version and uses NOISEASSASSIN technology to reduce noise even more than the original. Say that again, real quick. NOISEASSASSIN. I think I watched that movie on USA when I was a kid. Anyway… If you’ve used Jawbones in the past, you’ll understand what… → Read More
Despite Aliph’s insensitive viral videos circulating the Web nowadays, the Jawbone is a great Bluetooth headset. Yeah, I know I poke fun at you Bluetooth headset wearing funny guys, but when something works and works well, you can’t deny it or make fun of it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to make fun of those that wear it in inappropriate places, but that’s just… → Read More
I’ve finally gotten around to taking the Jawbone BT headset out of the box and over the next few days I’ll see what all the fuss is about. I’m going to struggle with this review since I poke fun at everyone who wears a headset. But I have the sense not to wear it on the subway unless, of course, I’m trying to hit on some ladies. The streets of NYC are probably the best… → Read More
You know what? I’m tired of viral video. Just by posting it here I fall into the trap and there’s really no way around it — it’s a win-win for the advertiser and makes us look like rubes. The story is this: formerly staid and upright Bluetooth headset maker seems to be trying to shed its boring, Star Trek image by making a bunch of silly viral videos, this one included. → Read More
