Despite Marvel’s attempt to shut down our Iron Man screening in SF last week, I have nothing but good things to say about them. Well, Marvel Studios to be exact. If you haven’t seen Iron Man yet than something is seriously wrong with you or you have way too many commitments. It was hands-down the best comic book-based movie I have ever seen and I LOVE Batman. Batman Begins was fantastic, but it doesn’t hold a torch to what Marvel Studios was able to do with Iron Man. My faith in comic book related movies has been fully restored. I do have high hopes for the next Batman movie, though. → Read More
There was much speculation — especially on the part of this blogger — that the release of GTA IV the same week as Iron Man might hurt the films revenue, the idea being that nerds would be hunkered down with their Xboxes trying to finish the game, or that many had spent their monthly fun budget on the $60 game, with nothing left for Tony Stark. That’s not the case. In fact, both the game and the film did boffo, with GTA IV bringing in close to $500 million, and Iron Man grossing $100 million its opening weekend. Either nerds smartened up and saved for both, or they decided they needed a break from Roman, always bugging them on the phone. Both the game and film are absolutely excellent, and both worth the money, and that, I think, is the reason they both succeeded. → Read More
Do you know what I did this last weekend? Besides attending the awesome CrunchGear reader meet-up in New York, my co-bloggers Peter and Devin and I attended a screening of Iron Man, and it was awesome. For reals, the movie is just great. Marvel is setting up a Marvel Universe on film. It was rumored that Samuel L. Jackson would make an appearance as Nick Fury in Iron Man, as he does in the new Hulk feature a few weeks out. He didn’t, and we were disappointed as we left the theater. Then I got a text message from Devin last night, saying “Nick Fury is after the credits!” He is! Hit the jump to see the video, and to see what Marvel has in store for us for the next couple of years. → Read More
We talked back in March about how all of you nerds spending your time on GTA IV could mean a lull in sales for the opening weekend of Iron Man. Besides spending your weekly allowance on a $60 DVD, you’ll also likely be holed up without food or water, to engrossed in virtual drunk driving to go out and see a movie. This weekend we’ll find out. Iron Man opens on Friday nationwide, and by that time most people will be four days deep in GTA IV. The film and the game have the same basic target audience, but will they be able to split their time this weekend? Of course, if you’re in San Francisco you can go watch it today courtesy of us at the Crunch Network, no matter what Marvel says. → Read More
It appears Marvel is none to happy about us giving our readers in SF a crack at Iron Man before opening day since TC just received a C&D from Marvel. MA used to be a lawyer so hopefully he can get all of this sorted out. → Read More
Iron Man Exclusive Trailerhttp://lads.myspace.com/videos/vplayer.swf CrunchGear and TechCrunch are hosting a special event tomorrow, April 30 (Wednesday) in San Francisco – a special screening of the movie Iron Man, two days before the official May 2 release. We’ve rented out the largest theater we could find in the area – The AMC Metreon in San Francisco, which will hold 600 people. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the movie starts at 7:15 pm (you can arrive as early as 6:30). If you’d like to come, you can purchase a ticket at EventBrite for $1 (the goal is to minimize no shows, which means empty seats). We will check your name against a list of registered attendees at the door. Why are we doing this? Just to say thank you to our readers and encourage warm fuzzy, advertisement-clicking feelings in you all. Details: AMC Loews Metreon 16 with IMAX 101 4th St San Francisco, CA 94103 (415) 369-6201 Tickets After the movie we’ll meet at the 4th Street Bar and Grill for drinks, unless you commenters have a better idea. → Read More
Iron Man comes to us next week, and we are stoked bloggers. Sure, this isn’t a movie site, but we’ve moved beyond just gear into the CrunchLifestyle, and that includes all things awesome like Iron Man himself. Live Science has put together a neat little gallery and run-down of real-life Iron Man-type power suits that actually exist, including the HAL and Sarcos XOS exoskeletons. This is power armor, letting you lift heavy burdens and do other physically tiring tasks with no trouble. Sure, they don’t look as cool as Iron Man’s armor, but then they weren’t designed by Tony Stark either. → Read More

Nicholas and I will be hitting the floor to see what’s cool and what’s not. So stick around and in the meantime, enjoy the trailer. → Read More

Excited for Iron Man yet? The game’s May 2 release date—one day after the CrunchGear party, for the record—draws nearer. As such, tidbits of gameplay information continue to trickle out, today being no different. A handful of screenshots of unlockable armor have surfaced, much to the delight of Peter “Iron-Man-This-Iron-Man-That” Ha. It’s all he talks about in the chat room. → Read More
With Iron Man just a few weeks away from hitting the big screen, there’s been some talk in the video game circles abut the game, and today Sega revealed all the powerful armors available to Iron Man in the new game, and they look pretty sweet. Not only are the suits from the movie represented, but a couple of comic book faves are here as well, including my favorite, the Classic, shown above. If you’re looking forward to the game, check it out. I hope the game is as good as the movie looks. → Read More
http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=32629 Sega’s upcoming “Iron Man” video game launch will coincide with the theatrical release on May 2 and I’m, well, pretty ecstatic. I haven’t been this excited for a comic book-based movie to come out since “Batman Begins” and I have high hopes for it as I’m sure most of you do too. We haven’t covered the game so much here at the Crunch, but to get everyone, including ourselves, psyched for both I’ve compiled all known videos, concept art and screen shots for you to enjoy all at once. So Enjoy Now! → Read More

Now this is an odd idea, indeed. A guy with my dad’s name (Mike Hickey) at Janco Partners is speculating that the release of GTAIV, arguably the most anticipated game of the year, could perhaps sap ticket sales from Iron Man. Wait, what? The reasoning is that they come out the same week, and that geeks will be too busy trying to beat the game to go out and see a dope-looking superhero film. I guess it’s sort of like when everyone played Wookie-hooky when Episode I came out, except Iron Man isn’t going to blow Ewok.
