Medal Of Dis-Honor? Pressure Mounts On EA Over Role Of Taliban In Game, British Defense Secretary Calls For Ban

As expected, EA’s Medal of Honor is coming under fire from all sides. The game, a first-person shooter, is scheduled to be released on October 12 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, takes place in Afghanistan, and puts you in control of U.S. soldiers on the ground there. It also, at least in the multi-player mode, lets you play as the Taliban. So, the natural line of thinking is, what kind of video game lets you shoot and kill U.S. soldiers? → Read More

Madden 2011 Prepares To Tackle The iPad (Video Preview)

Last year, EA Sports brought its hit football franchise Madden to the iPhone and iPod Touch — the game went on to become one of the top-selling iOS games of 2009, and has since racked up a total of nearly 13,000 reviews. Later this week, the gaming powerhouse will be bringing the virtual gridiron to a device that’s even better suited for its touchscreen gameplay: the iPad.

Madden 2011 will be released for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch this Tuesday (pricing details haven’t been announced, but the iPad version will likely go for around $12, and the iPhone version will be less expensive). We sat down with Jeremy Gross, a Producer at EA Mobile, who gave us a walkthrough of the final version of the game. → Read More

    Crysis 2 Delayed Until 2011

Bad news for Crysis 2 fans, EA had their financial announcement today, and confirmed that Crisys 2 will be delayed unti 4Q2011. It was originally scheduled to come out this winter. EA didn’t let out any official reason for the delay, but it could be related to the recent addition of 3D graphics. I say let ‘em hold off and get it right the first time. The Sims Have Gone Medieval

The Sims, still going strong. EA has announced the development of a new game in the series, which it’s calling The Sims Medieval. As the name implies (actually, I’m pretty sure that’s slightly stronger than implication, having the word in the title), the game takes place in the time of knights and chivalry and all that fun stuff. Did The Sims just get interesting again? (Yes.) → Read More

EA calls Nintendo 3DS 'magical' & says it will sell 'like hotcakes'

And now EA has said what we’ve all been saying: the Nintendo 3DS is quite the piece of kit. Granted, EA doesn’t used the same bit of forced Briticism that I just did, but the feelings are the same: Nintendo has a hit on its hands. It’s one that when one of us say it, but EA? → Read More

EA now the 'Official Technology Partner of the [English] Premier League'

When does the Premiership begin, in a few weeks? (Yes, I realize I could just Wiki that, but that would have deprived me of an opening question.) Word today is that the Barclays Premier League has teamed up with EA to make the games a little more technological. EA will henceforth be known as the Official Technology Partner of the Premier League. Yay, etc. → Read More

FIFA Soccer 11, Pro Evolution Soccer 11 first details

Both EA and Konami have revealed details regarding the next FIFA, called FIFA Soccer 10 in the U.S., and Pro Evolution Soccer, called Pro Evolution Soccer 11, games, respectively. The first detail: they exist. There was approximately a zero percent chance that EA and Konami wouldn’t continue with the franchises, but you and I know that big corporations make terrible decisions all the time. EA’s big new feature is called Personality+, and it aims to make each player in the game as much like the player in real life. That is, Messi should be able to waltz pass defenders in-game as he does for Barcelona week in, week out, while Michael Carrick should be able to complete one pass in 50 as he does for Manchester United. (Exaggerated for effect. folks, so calm down.) → Read More

Video: Medal of Honor trailer reveals upcoming beta

A new trailer just posted to the Medal of Honor Web site pretty much checks all the boxes on the Big Checklist of FPS Trailer requirements. Sad, dramatic music; military man talking to his wife on the phone in a reassuring manner “I love you, we’re OK because we’re trained for this sort of thing, don’t forget to have the car inspected,” etc.; flash, bang, explosion, fade to black. I really don’t know how many of these games I can take. That’s not saying it’ll be a bad game—I played it, and it is, in fact, quite good&,dash;but I do believe I’m tiring of playing toy soldier. → Read More

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 fixes a-comin' this week

Be on the lookout for a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 update sometime this week, probably by Wednesday. Most of the changes affect the multi-portion of the game, something that I’ve participated in for, oh, 18 seconds before dying, cursing, then never playing again. True story! → Read More

Shock: Graphics being equal, Crysis 2 said to run better on PS3 than Xbox 360 (but best on PC)

It was only a few days ago that Crytek and EA showed off Crysis 2 to the world’s gaming press—and CrunchGear. It looks crazy, yes, and that finely tuned opinion—”it looks crazy”—is based on the Xbox 360 version. But if we believe Crytek’s business development boss, then the game runs even better on the PS3 than it does the Xbox 360. The games may look identical, or extraordinarily close to it, but the Xbox 360 is being pushed far harder than the PS3. You probably already knew that, yes. → Read More

Former Infinity Ward dudes form new studio for EA

You’ll recall that the two bigwigs at Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, left the studio a few months back under, well, insane circumstances. It’s basically he said, she said, only involving lawsuits, hired goons, and Activision, the least popular video game publisher according to a recent GameFaqs poll. Yes, I just cited a GameFaqs poll. West and Zampella didn’t like the way Activision were treating them, and Activision alleges that the two were looking to leave Infinity Ward and perhaps start up a new studio under the watchful eye (and with the gigantic bank account) of EA. Funnily enough, West and Zampella have done just that, forming a new development studio called Respawn Entertainment. Wonder how Dice, makers of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, feels about all of this? → Read More

'Yeah, but does it run Crysis 2?'

The World’s video game press gathered in New York on Tuesday for the world premiere of Crysis 2, the sequel to the game whose memory lives in on the question, “Yeah, but does it run Crysis?” It’s no coincidence that Crtyek, the game’s developers, and EA, the game’s publisher, chose New York to show off the game, with Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli calling the city “symbolic of the pride of mankind.” Clearly he hasn’t been to the more rubbish sections of Queens. Yes, you’re in an altogether different type of jungle this go-round. → Read More

Latest Battlefield: Bad Company 2 map pack locks, loads (even though maps can’t lock nor load, per se)

Soldats, je suis contents de vous! EA and DICE just released the second VIP map pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I take it I’m the only person on Planet Earth to buy the game strictly for the single-player mode, but go ahead and have fun without me! → Read More

EA fellow bitten by his own company's DRM in Command and Conquer 4, questions the sense of it all

Jeff Green used to work at Games For Windows magazine before taking a sweet gig at EA, but that little fact won’t silence his criticism of the DRM found in Command and Conquer 4. He tweeted white-hot rage when, as everyone on the Internet predicted, this “always-on” nonsense worked as intended, and prevented a law-abiding citizen from playing his game. → Read More

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sells many copies (plus bonus rant!)

God almighty do I have a bone to pick with Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which I bought on release day like a mark. The game is doing quite well for EA, having already sold 2.3 million units (and projected to sell 4 million by the end of the year). So that’s ahead of expectations—it’s a hit, have a party. The thing that annoys me (and Matt, for that matter) is the game’s implementation of checkpoints. There’s not nearly enough of them, and it’s infuriating. I was very close to lighting my monitor on fire last night. → Read More

Oh, neat: Command & Conquer 4 requires a constant Internet connection, too

Let’s make one thing clear: I wouldn’t play Command and Conquer 4 if it was the game on Earth. It’s just not “me.” So pardon my blase attitude while I drop this bombshell: the game uses the same stupid DRM that Ubisoft now uses, which I complained about on CNN. Add this to your list of games not to buy, then. → Read More
