We’re pleased to announce that we have launched a new version of CrunchBoard powered by Personforce. There are already several new positions posted by highly visible Web 2.0 companies. Digg has posted listings for VP of Business Development and Business Development Manager. JibJab is looking for a Ruby on Rails Software Engineer, a Web Designer, and a Senior Systems Administrator. And Tokbox wants a PHP/LAMP Software Engineer to join them. In honor of our new partner Personforce, we are offering discounts on bulk listing purchases over the next 30 days. Please email jobboard@techcrunch.com for additional details. We’d also like to thank all of the many job board providers who reached out to us following the announcement that Edgeio had been sold to Looksmart. Although there were many qualified and eager candidates, we were attracted to the dedicated sales effort that Personforce will add to our own efforts. Personforce powers VentureBeat as well as the boards at a number of leading colleges and universities (Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and more). They also moved expeditiously to get a new board up and running within 48 hours of Looksmart unexpectedly pulling the plug on our old board (nice one, guys). Thanks for your patience as we made this transition. And look for more exciting developments between Personforce and CrunchBoard in the coming weeks, including new boards for TechCrunch UK and TechCrunch France. → Read More

There’s a new version of the CrunchBoard job board – we’ve ripped out our custom code and replaced it with the new Edgeio marketplaces product. Edgeio is a company that I co-founded, and I spent a lot of time with them working on the product features to make sure it was perfect for us and other sites that want to have their own classifieds site. They’ll customize the page to have the same look and feel as your main site, and handle all of the logistics, customer service and payment issues. They charge a flat 20% of gross fees generated if you choose to charge for listings, otherwise the product is free. One feature edgeio has that we’ve already implemented – the ability to cross promote other job boards on your own. So in the process of listing a job, I can ask the lister if they would like to also list their job on another edgeio-powered board, optionally for an additional fee. If the lister chooses to do that, the fee is split between me and the other job board any way we want to split it. Another feature, not yet launched, is an affiliate program. When that is launched other sites can become affiliates of edgeio powered sites, and receive a commission for selling listings. There will be both a widget and simple link option for affiliates. I’ll be adding this as well as soon as it’s available, and giving away a third or so of the fees to affiliates. We’ll also now be expanding Crunchboard to other types of relevant listings as well. More on that later. The important thing for us is to provide relevant job listings for new startups, and get employers and employees together as easily as possible. edgeio is letting us do that, without the hassle of managing all of the bugs and hassles inherent in maintaining your own code. Note: There are lots of excellent other job board providers to choose from (I wrote about many of them here), and I am clearly conflicted in choosing edgeio. Still, I think the pricing and flexibility to expand beyond job listings into a customized craigslist-type site for any kind of listings makes it a good choice. → Read More
The CrunchBoard job board officially launched last Thursday. We’ve gathered some interesting stats on the service after being up almost a week. CrunchBoard is permanently linked from TechCrunch in two spots (top nav bar and right sidebar), as well as MobileCrunch. More links are being integrated. There have been a total of 75 jobs posted on the site, or about ten per day. Both large and small companies are using it for their hiring needs – customers include Fox (including listings for Myspace, Fox Sports, IGN and other properties), NBC, Six Apart, Pandora, Sharpcast, MobiTV, Photobucket, Piczo, Meevee, Simply Hired, Browster, Flock, and many others. I think the coolest job listed so far has to go to Fox – how would you like to be on the mergers and acquisitions team of the company that bought Myspace a year ago? Jobs have been listed in Silicon Valley, New York, London, Tel Aviv, Austin, Tempe, Cambridge, Los Angeles, San Diego and even New Zealand. The most popular category is programming, followed by sales/marketing/bizdev and design. The site has had just under 100,000 visitors and 180,000 page views – a lot of people are looking at these jobs. What interests me most is the feedback from listers, who are saying just a few resumes are coming in but that they of very high quality, from people who know the industry. More updates as things progress. Thanks to everyone who’s written about CrunchBoard. Ping me with updates and I’ll add them here. And what I really want to know about are success stories. If you’ve found a job through CrunchBoard, email me and let me know about it, along with your blog address if you have one. A good percentage of emails coming to me every day are from people asking me which companies are hiring, or from companies asking me if I know someone who would be a good fit for a job. I keep a separate email folder with these emails and introduce people as often as possible. But this isn’t a scalable system, and I wanted to do more to match companies with people. So we built a job board and launched it today at CrunchBoard.com. Now these people can connect directly. Our goal with CrunchBoard is to build the ultimate web insider’s network. A thirty day ad costs $200. I’ll consider CrunchBoard a success if we manage to put the right people together and make the entire ecosystem a little more efficient. RSS feeds are available for all listings as well as for each category. Thanks to Josh Hallett and Peter Harkins for creating the initial design and coding concepts, and to Jeremy Baines for spending many long nights recently adding functionality, refining the design and helping with the coding. My friend Nik Cubrilovic also helped out immensely. We’ve been working with beta testers over the last few days to iron out the bugs. If you see any problems, or have any suggestions, please email me or leave a comment below. → Read More
