We’ve been talking about Cadence for a while now and I got the chance to sit down with Vanya Buvac, founder of the company watches and creator of some nice, inexpensive timepieces (including the dirty, dirty 4:20 watch). The company started when the founder wanted to build a “cadence” sensing watch for rowing. Based near Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row, the first Cadence watch (the heavy quartz LCD model near the top of the picture above) had a built-in weight that sensed your strokes per minute. Their latest model, the Josh Chadwick, has a quartz LCD face and is clad in brushed metal and will come with either a black or silver bezel. My favorite is the relatively inexpensive Ecomatic, an automatic watch sold for under $195. Vanya is a big fan of geeks (as evidenced by his 4-Bit model) and, apparently, heshers. Candence, watches made famous for their unique “4-bit” numerals, has just announced a chrono version of their well-known 4-bit watch. The 42mm watch has a Miyota quartz movement, UTC display (basically a second time-zone), and a chronograph movement. → Read More
Short version: Simple, geeky, and clean, the Cadence 4-Bit watch is stylish without being gaudy. Priced right at $99, if you still wear a watch, this is definitely one to take a look at. → Read More
The Cadence Wrist Rocket is a digital sports watch, with a bit of a twist on the standard square design. It’s everything you expect in a sports watch; it’s water resistant, has a stopwatch, countdown timer, an alarm, and a resin body and strap. It’s quite a large watch, but that’s not really a bad thing because that makes the display easy to read. → Read More
