CES 2011 is next week. Next week! This year’s show is sure to be filled with a ton of craptablets and iPad knock-offs, but Asus is one of those companies that should be able to out a lasting and quality tablet. The pic above is a little tease of what’s coming — and surprise surprise, they actually shows off a good deal. → Read More
Asus’s Eee Note, formerly known as the Eee Tablet, got its official official debut this morning. We heard a couple months back that the device (in the middle of a name change operation) would be available in October, but as usual, the real date turned out to be a little later. Actually, a lot later for Americans. → Read More
Well this is peculiar. It looks as if Microsoft has tried, in effect, to use some of its influence to prevent Asus and Acer from creating Android- and/or Chrome OS-based devices. It’s doing so by tacking on royalty fees for Taiwan-based manufacturers (such as Asus and Acer) in order to use some of their patents relating to e-mail and multimedia. HTC, the other big Taiwan manufacturer, has agreed to the new licensing regime. → Read More
Asus seems to be taking the exact opposite of Apple’s tablet strategy. Instead of throwing everything behind one model like the iPad, Asus is developing multiple tablets in the 7-, 9-, 10-, and 12-inch form factor. The 12-inch is said to run an enhanced version of Windows, co-developed by Asus and Microsoft, while some of the smaller models will likely be Android and Tegra 2 powered. Confused yet? Yeah, just wait until these thing drop alongside dozens of other tablets at CES 2011. → Read More
Asus just had a new Lamborghini labeled product get approved by the FCC, for better or worse. The new mouse joins an already varied and colorful line of ill-advised products. I mean, really? Who buys a Lamborghini licensed mouse or laptop? If you own the car, you probably buy something a bit more high end, and if don’t have the car, you shouldn’t use one. It’s like the Ferrari or Porsche jackets that were so popular in the 80′s. If you don’t own the car, you look like a wanker. All we really do know it that the Asus WX-Lamborghini is a branded wireless mouse, but we have no idea on the price or availability. Not that you should buy one anyway. If you want a netbook but have been holding off for something cheap and cheerful, here’s your chance to pick up Asus’ 160GB netbook. It’s the standard Intel Atom N270 1.6ghz with 1GB of RAM, a 10.1″ display, and Windows XP. You can pick it up from CircuitCity.com for $219. You better hurry though, this deal expires on the 25th. → Read More
Not one to be left out of a market, Asus has been working on its latest entry to the tablet market for some time now, teasing both the Eee Tablet and Eee Pad over the last few months but never really setting a date or price. No longer! → Read More
Wow, thievery is getting pretty awesome. Remember back in March, when robbers made off with 20 Mac laptops without touching the floor? And now, in a decidedly less sophisticated heist, a trio of amateur Romanian thieves have made off a display version of Asus’ sexy NX90 laptop, which we saw announced at CES. They appear to have simply walked in, nicked the NX90, and walked out. The guy and the girl were probably running interference. My question is this: how do they know that thing wasn’t a display dummy? → Read More
Up to this point, Asus’ US product line has been aimed directly at the consumer. This is about to change, as Asus recently announced that they will be offering their B series of laptops, which were previously limited to the Asian market. → Read More
Digitimes, a standard for Asian hardware rumors and CE industry news, just posted a report indicating, well, like my headline states, Asus is prepping “an e-book reader with an 8-inch 64-grayscale TFT-LCD screen without backlight for own-brand sale at below US$599 in October 2010.” But that can’t be right. At least I hope it’s not right. $599? → Read More
Quickly now, quickly. T-Mobile has reduced the price of the new Garmin phone to $129 (that’s including rebate). This isn’t exactly surprising given that the phone is trying to survive in an iPhone and Froyo world. So if you were ever on the fence for the little guy, well, no time like the present. → Read More
I’m working on a few reviews of e-readers right now, but what I’m seeing here from Asus pretty much blows them all away. I’d seen pictures, but seeing the camera and writing in motion is a whole other world. The weird part is it’s not actually an e-ink display, it’s a monochrome LCD sans backlight. What the hell, right? Whatever works, I guess, although it brings the battery life down to a (still respectable) 10 hours.
The crazy thing? It’s supposed to be only $200. That makes it a huge bargain if what we’re seeing here really works. → Read More
Generally when we talk about integrated GPUs, it’s with a sniff. Onboard graphics? Please. They can’t even handle Windows’ visual effects, much less Call of Duty’s. This new motherboard from Asus, shown at Computex, will break the cycle by integrating not some bargain bin silicon, but a real GPU you can buy on the street. In this case it’s a Radeon HD 5770 (no slouch), and with HYDRA capability, the mobo can put it in SLImulti-GPU mode with any card or cards you decide to add in. → Read More
Notebook and netbook maker Asus is pre-installing the Amazon Kindle for PC application, allowing Asus owners to access Amazon’s selection of e-books without having to suffer through the pain of software installation on their own time. Not much more to say about this, except that it further cements Amazon’s hegemony in the e-book market. How will Barnes and Noble respond, I wonder? → Read More
What do you do with a laptop when you’re done with it? That’s an actual question being that the only laptop I owned before my current old man MacBook is sitting in the closet, broken beyond repair. Now, if I had one of these new Asus laptops, I could, somehow, recycle them. Helping the Earth, one laptop at a time. → Read More
Moments ago, in our chatroom, I said that, if I had the money, I’d buy two Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboards: one to use and one to hang on the wall like a diploma. That’s how great the thing looks. Never mind that, simply reading the stats, it’s one of the best motherboard money can buy as of today—it looks as if it was designed by an extraterrestrial being, one with an advanced outer space art degree. It’s a very good board, but is it OMG BEST THING EVER~! → Read More
My goodness. Talk about a long product development cycle. We first saw a working demo of the Asus Eee Keyboard 17 months ago at CES 2009 and it just now started shipping to customers. We’re not even going to pretend to know why it would took so long to make it from the show floor to customers. All that matters now is that the device is now shipping from Amazon to buyers. Finally. → Read More
After over a year of delays, promises, and waiting, we finally know what’s going to be in the Eee Keyboard. Has it been too long? Is it too late for the poor keyboard that every wanted, but no one could get? Do we still care? I’ll admit, I like it, but I may be in the minority. → Read More
Asus leaked their own product this time, by revealing that their newest secret project, the Eee PC 1218. The details are sketchy of course, but what we can see looks hawt. → Read More
We’re about to see another manufacturer throw their hat into the Tablet PC ring. ASUS is expected to show out their EeePad in June at Computex, with a July launch date. Of course, ASUS has a reputation for needing to push those launch dates out a little bit, so we’ll see if things go as planned. → Read More
