Japan Is Getting A 3DS In Pink (“For The Girls”)

    nintendo pink

That horrible 3DS cradle Nintendo showed during the Nintendo 3DS Conference 2011 [JP] today wasn’t the only official hardware-related announcement of the show: big N also took the wraps off a very special new 3DS version, the so-called 3DS in “Misty Pink”. Various Gameboy and DS models have seen pink special editions already, so Nintendo is continuing a tradition here.

But the real reason is that Nintendo wants to woo female gamers with the pink 3DS: according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the ratio of female 3DS users is well below 50% currently, while it stands at 50% for the Wii and a bit more than that for the DS (in Japan, at least). → Read More

For The 3DS: Nintendo Shows Mario 3D, Mario Kart 7 (Full List Of All Future Titles)

    Picture 8

The Tokyo Game Show 2011 is starting tomorrow, an exhibition that Nintendo isn’t taking part in traditionally. Instead, big N organized a separate event today, the so-called Nintendo 3DS Conference 2011 [JP], where the company showed a total of 32 new titles that will be rolled out for the 3DS in the next months.

Here’s the full list [JP]. → Read More

Report: Nintendo 3DS Gets “Slide Pad” Add-On (First Pic)

    391680324

This week’s issue of the Famitsu, Japan’s biggest video game magazine, is due out tomorrow, but gaming geek @south1996 appears to have made an early and pretty interesting snapshot: it’s the first picture showing the 3DS joystick add-on the gaming world has been speculating over for weeks.

As you can see, the so-called “slide pad” is designed like a cradle that holds the lower part of the 3DS, making the device as a whole rather bulky (one Japanese game blog estimates that it makes the 3DS 1cm wider on the left, 2-3 cm on the right and 2cm to the bottom). → Read More

3D For Everyone! Get The Nintendo 3DS For $150

    fly-or-die-3ds

Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS from $250 to $169 just a few weeks back. Now you can get it for even less. MacMall is currently selling the blue and black systems via ebay for $150 with free shipping. The new red model is notable missing and somewhat seems to say that the blue and black flavors are just sitting in warehouses, waiting to be cleared out. → Read More

After Price Drop: Nintendo Japan Sells 215K 3DS Units In 7 Days

    flamered2

Nintendo caused a major splash in the video game world when it announced to slash the price of the 3DS in Japan, the US and elsewhere by 30-40% (depending on the country) – just a few months after the system went on sale. → Read More

Nintendo Leaning On Star Fox 64 3D, Flame Red 3DS To Relaunch The Struggling Handheld

    flamered2

Meet the red 3DS. It’s a lot like the standard blue and black model, but, you know, red. The Flame Red color flavor debuted in Japan a while ago, but Nintendo is finally bringing it here as part of the system’s relaunch this Friday. (As if the color red will help the 3DS)

The 3DS hasn’t exactly been a hit so far. The company took a big loss last quarter after sales came in well below expectations. This clearly caused the company to reevaluate the 3DS’s $249 price-point and so, the system was cut to $169. That price cut goes into effect this Friday as Nintendo desperately tries to stop the hemorrhaging. → Read More

Early 3DS Price Drop At Wal-Mart Could Enable Savings Plus “Ambassador” Perks

    2132454485

Nintendo recently had an epiphany, owning up to the 3DS’s slow launch by slashing pricesand paychecks. To make up for shafting early adopters, Nintendo has also said that anyone who has a 3DS before the price drop hits (on August 12th) will be eligible to receive 20 free virtual console games. But what if I told you that you could get a 3DS for the new price and get 20 free games? → Read More

Debaser: Satoru Iwata Apologizes For The 3DS Price Drop

    satoru

While I haven’t heard any popular outcry regarding the Nintendo 3DS price drop – a quiet that, is, in a way, the most interesting part of the entire affair – Nintendo has decided that it’s time to explain itself to the early adopters. Satoru Iwata, CEO of the company, stated that the move was, in fact, unprecedented, but Nintendo had some very good reasons for cutting the 3DS price: → Read More

Nintendo Boss Takes The Blame For 3DS Sales, Cuts His Paycheck In Half

    Satoru Iwata

When companies go through a rough patch, it’s pretty rare to see the big man upstairs step up in an awesome way.

Take RIM for example. In the middle of security troubles in India and amidst tough competition from Apple and others — right before a major product, the BlackBerry PlayBook was launched — co-CEO Mike Lazaridis shut down a BBC interview not only making himself look overly defensive, but making the company look frazzled.

Today Nintendo’s president took a different route. → Read More

Nintendo 3DS To Drop To $170 On August 12, Current Owners Get 20 Free Games

    img_0676

The Nintendo 3DS is dropping $80 – from $249 to $169 – on August 12 in preparation for the launch of the console’s E3 A-List titles including Kid Icarus. This cut is also, presumably, in reaction to slow initial sales of the 3D console.

Current owners of the console will receive ten free NES games along with ten free Game Boy Advance titles on September 1st (provided they’ve logged into the Nintendo eShop before August 12.

Nintendo Cuts Price Of 3DS In Japan By 40% To $190, Other Markets To Follow

    scaled.img_03181

We’ve seen many price drops in the video gaming industry in the last 30 years, but I personally can’t remember such a radical move: Nintendo just announced [in English, PDF] that they will cut the price of their (relatively) new 3D portable gaming system 3DS by a whopping 10,000 Yen ($127) to 15000 Yen ($190). → Read More

Nintendo Video Hits The 3DS Tomorrow (In Japan Only, Alas)

    2132454485

Nintendo is working hard at making its 3DS less of a “put in a cartridge, play a game” console, and more of an all-purpose gaming/media/social gadget. They’re awful slow at it, though, since their entire system from the eighties on has been the cartridge thing, more or less.

Perhaps they looked at Apple and said not “oh no, they’re going to get us” but “man, how come we haven’t tried alternative methods of capitalizing on this huge, loyal user base?” This was years ago, mind you, and they still haven’t really branched out (Wii Speak?), but we’re beginning to see the new, rich experience roll out, however slowly. Their curated video channel of 3D content is just about to go live on Japanese 3DSes, for instance. Finally! → Read More

The Nintendo 3DS Hits 1 Million Sold Units In Japan 13 Weeks After Launch

The original Nintendo DS hit 1 million units in just 4 weeks. It took the new 3DS 13 weeks to hit that milestone. Of course this portable seemingly had more going against it: the $249 price tag, the lackluster launch titles, and many gamers in Japan already had the similar, and still satisfying, DS or DS Lite. Nintendo previously stated that the 3DS wasn’t meeting its expectations although they had moved 3.61 million units into the hands of gamers across all regions by the end of its Fiscal year in March. Hopefully Sony is paying attention and estimating PS Vita numbers accordingly. → Read More

The Nintendo DS Lite Is Now Just $99

The aging Nintendo DS Lite just got a breath of sweet life. If you don’t already own the fantastic handheld, perhaps its new, lower $99 price will bring you aboard the party bus. Nintendo just announced the price drop from $129, which in my mind, does nothing but create a bit more competition for the $249 3DS. Maybe this move is a precursor to Nintendo dropping the 3DS’ price next week at E3. → Read More

Best Buy And Nintendo Teaming Up To Serve 3DS Games Via Wi-Fi

Best Buy will open up their in-store wireless networks to allow kids (and kids at heart) to download games in their stores. They will also, obviously, sell the 3DS and will provide a “firsthand look at the platform with experts” in store.

While it’s certainly magnanimous of Best Buy to open their Wi-Fi to the masses, I wonder how much of this will end up being an upsell? “Pair your 3DS with Wi-Fi for $15,” anyone? → Read More

Nintendo Launching Wireless eShop For 3DS At E3

Not only can we potentially maybe expect a Wii 2 at E3 this year but Nintendo 3DS owners might just have access to the wireless eShop, a system for downloading and buying games right from your console. June 7 will bring us an update that enables the eShop in the US. A Japanese update should be adding a 3D Movie player and Virtual Console updates to those devices. via Eng via andriasang → Read More

Nintendo 3DS Takes Over The Jet Blue Terminal

Now this is a great idea: Nintendo has rented a few spots in the Jet Blue Terminal at JFK (I can’t confirm they’ve done this elsewhere but I’ll ask). They have folks on hand to show off the device and there are plenty of chairs and 3DS devices for kids and, presumably, the adults in charge of their care, to use. → Read More

Nintendo Can't Sell The 3DS And It's Your Fault

The 3DS isn’t selling well and it’s your fault – at least that’s what Nintendo is suggesting. According to Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, most people don’t know what the heck to do with the thing. Jeez! CVG points to this quote:

The value of 3D images without the need for special glasses is hard to be understood through the existing media. However, we have found that people cannot feel it just by trying out a device, rather, some might even misestimate it when experiencing the images in an improper fashion.

Here's The 3DS' The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Opening Movie

Nothing like a calm opening title sequence to settle the soul and quiet the mind. Sure, it’s just remake of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, but this movie brought back such good memories that I’m ready to replay the game. [via Joystiq] → Read More
