This is an internet and technology competition without geographic boundaries (well, except for the one international award that specifically recognizes a non-US-based company). No companies are restricted from consideration. Certain awards have specified criteria (i.e. best unfunded startup or best new startup launched in 2011) but, otherwise, all companies and products are eligible for consideration based on their business accomplishments made during calendar 2011. Companies may be nominated for multiple award categories, and companies may win multiple awards. There are no fees to nominate companies for consideration.

Everyone is invited to nominate companies for award consideration. For each award category, each person is invited to submit one company for consideration per IP address per day. Nominations across all 20 categories do not need to be submitted in a single ballot, but each confirmed submission will be counted as final per user.

The Crunchies Committee will select the top five nominated companies per award category based on the quantity, quality and breadth of submissions received. Each finalist company will be invited to attend the Award Ceremony.

Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite Crunchies winners. One ballot per IP address per day will be counted in the final vote. The Crunchies Committee reserves the right to discard any and all votes that it reasonably determines to be fraudulent or submitted by bots or other computer-generated voting applications. There are no fees to vote.

The final award winners will be determined based on the popular votes received through website voting and the Crunchies Committee. The award winners will be announced live at the Awards Ceremony to be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in San Francisco.

Crunchies 2011

The 2011 Crunchies is our fifth annual competition and award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the most compelling startups, internet and technology innovations of the year.

The Crunchies is co-hosted by GigaOm, VentureBeat, and TechCrunch. Best of all, the internet community is invited to choose who wins.

The Crunchies award ceremony takes place on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco with the ceremony beginning at 7:30 pm. The Davies is an elegant, 2700-seat theater is home to the San Francisco Symphony, just the type of setting to give the Crunchies the air of importance they deserve. Crunchies General Admission tickets will be released in batches beginning December 13th.

Following the Crunchies Awards, the celebration will continue at the Davies for this year’s after party. As always there will be a hosted bar, hors d’oeuvres, casino game room, and other fun entertainment and surprises.

The after party begins immediately following the ceremony at 9 pm until 11:30 pm. Admission to the party is included with a purchase of an Awards Ceremony ticket.

The Davies Symphony Hall has sweeping views of San Francisco City Hall and the War Memorial Opera House. The curved lobby makes a gorgeous setting for the fifth annual Crunchies. Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is at 201 Van Ness Avenue at Grove Street. The main entrance is on the south side of Grove Street between Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Street. We saw brilliant hackers, met determined entrepreneurs, revealed new companies and products, witnessed a surprise proposal, threw incredible after parties, chatted with inspirational guest speakers, witnessed our first ever “Office Hours” onstage, and gave away spontaneous prizes, all while hosting an amazing event in New York City. Disrupt NYC was a huge hit and we are still recapping everything that happened. We had around 2,100 attendees and had the time of our lives in the Big Apple. However, the fun doesn’t stop there. This September, we will be hosting our next Disrupt in San Francisco!

Disrupt SF will take place September 12th – 14th, preceded by our ever popular Hackathon on September 10th – 11th. Even though Disrupt NYC was a huge hit, we hope and expect Disrupt SF to be even bigger. We will have more hackers, more startups, more special guests, speakers, and judges, more disruptive companies and products, more giveaways, more after parties, and more fun. What we have in store for this year’s Disrupt in San Francisco will be revealed in the following months as we come closer to September. We will also be doing free ticket giveaways, so be on the lookout for those.
