Take dramatically better photos by learning the basic principles you need to master your DSLR camera

Fun intro to DSLR Camera and techniques
This is a fairly quick and very informative basic course on how to use a DSLR. Ken is a great instructor and kept the pace and level just right for someone interested in learning how to use these modern camera's.
A great starting off point!
Thanks for putting together a great beginner's course for people like me that are full of excitement but completely new to photography. I went through the course twice and each time following along with my camera's manual so I could learn both my camera and photography basics. I'd recommend it to anyone just starting out!
This is a great course covering the basics of using a DLSR camera. I have had one for a few years but never really got into how to use it. Ken explains all the various concepts so that it's easy to understand and I really got a lot out of the different camera shots which illustrated these concepts. Ken is very engaged answering everyone's questions that adds a lot of value to the course. I'm looking forward to taking the advanced class and any other course Ken ends up teaching.
Great way for a true beginner like me to gain a good understanding of digital SLR photography.
easy to follow and understand
Ken keeps it simple - and the nice thing is you can rewatch anything that you're unclear on.
Great Lecture Ken and I have bought Advanced :)
That was a great course, the material covered was positioned in a way that was easy to understand and follow. I look forward to the advanced course! The only disappointing thing about the course is that it didn't prepare me a certificate of completion at the end, just kept saying being prepared!
Exactly what I needed.
I am completely new to dslr photography. I began the course a few days before I bought my camera and it helped me be more informed while dealing with the salesperson and helped me understand all these options. I purchased a nikon 5200 and I'm using the skills Ken discussed all the time. I am very happy with this course and think it is fully worth the money, and more importantly, my time. Thanks Ken for making my transition to SLR easy and fun!
Designation Andrew Marcucci
Excellent beginners course. Easy to understand even if using a different brand as I was learning using my new Nikon D5300. The fact you can go back and review previous lectures is helpful and I will be taking a few more additional classes.
Very good course
I'm new to photography. I don't own an SLR, but I do own an SLR-like. The concepts described by Ken applied perfectly. Even when something didn't apply directly to my camera model, I was often able to look in my manual to find a similar function.
Excellent course. Very informative.
I have always been interested in Photography but have never had a DSLR. I wanted a way to quickly understand the basics of how to operate my DSLR. This by far exceeded my expectations and I feel like I can really start to look at pictures differently in the future. I can't wait to start the Advanced Course!
Excellent intro to photography
This course gave a very clear explanation of what a DSLR was, and a great overview of features and functions. It explained many technical terms and terms and techniques in photography. The instructor is knowledgeable and appears experienced. However, I often found the cadence of his voice slow and distracting. I found myself urging him to get the next line out. This is minor, though, compared to the knowledge he shares. I feel my money was well spent and will take more courses by him.
Very good teacher, liked that he not only gives you the theory but he shows you many examples.
Review on EASY DSLR from Belgium
What a great introduction course. I was looking for an online video course to start shooting my camera in all the modes except auto-mode. This really is a great way to start, because all is explained in a clear way, so even I was able to understand all Ken was talking about. After this I am taking the advanced course. This is more fun than a boring book.
Claes Niclas Andersson
Easy and interesting
Ken really know how to explain in an easy way.
A Must For New DSLR Owners
Having used DSLRs for years and never taking the time to study the manuals for the details of many of the features (mainly using auto mode), this course gave me the incentive to delve deeper. I followed along with my 200+ page Nikon manual. The video's education in each topic made for much easier and faster understanding of the manuals sometimes confusing or unclear meaning. Well done!
Great course. Very good didactic and very easy understanding. I recommend to everybody that is starting on dslr.
Great starting point!!
Being new to the world of using a DSLR camera, this course was a great starting point to learn the basic concepts and workings of the camera. I will be jumping into the advanced course in the not to distant future! Thank you
Great course, easy to understand.
I have to say this was so good a course I had to enrol for the advanced course. Ken has a great way of explaining things and throws in so many helpful tips it makes learning easy.
Great introduction to digital cameras, their functions and how to use them.
Ken covers what you need to know to start taking better shots. As an old man I need to watch a few of the lectures over so that my mind can absorb them. The Aperture ISO etc in the triangle, a little hard for me to keep in my mind.
Great begineer course
Really enjoyed the easy pace. Easy to understand on all topics. Would recommend to anyone interested in learning DSLR.
Clear concise videos
I really enjoyed this course. It reinvigorated my desire to go beyond the auto menus and gave clear explanations about the technology and terminology of modern DSLR's. I feel much more confident to try new settings and experiment with flash. Canon users will find it especially useful, as many examples use Canon cameras, but non Canon users will find it equally accessible.
This course has opened my eyes so much. I was clueless I see about taking pictures. And I guess at 50 you still are not too old to learn. I am so happy I signed up for this course. I would love to take the advance course. But will have to wait since I missed out on the promotion code. TY Ken you are very informative and I sincerely appreciate this class.
The content is well organized and well paced. Ken does a great job at teaching you what you need to know.
For those of you just starting out in photography, this is a must see course. It covers all the basics and more. You will learn the in's and out's of your camera, camera settings and composition. It also covers how to get the best picture possible in different situations. I highly recommend this course and now I am ready to take my camera off manual mode and get the professional looking pictures I always wanted.
Enjoyable and useful course--highly recommend it
I enjoyed this class tremendously and would recommend it to any beginners who want to improve their photography skills. Although I looked at my camera manual several times, I still didn't understand the various settings and felt like I was making no progress. Ken's class enabled me to get off the programmed auto and take better photos. I plan to take his advanced class. Good teacher, great class. Thanks Ken.
Easy to watch and understand
Great course for beginners (hence the title of the course!). Thank you so much!!!
This course covers all I needed to know to understand most of the main functions of my DSLR! The rest will come with experience...
Much Too Basic
Poorly presented and far too little information and examples for a new DSLR photographer. The video is also very poorly shot as well. Buy a good photography book with exercises to try out for each of the basic principles and go out and practice.
Great Digital Photography Course for Beginners
This beginner's course really gave me a strong foundation in starting digital photography. I would recommend this course to other beginners like me for it provides further understanding of the important factors in digital photography such as composition, exposure, focus and so on. Thank you Ken!
I am very new to DSLR photography, and I learnt a whole lot from this course! I have spent some time scouring youtube for beginner tips and tricks for shooting with DSLR's, but none of the content I found was as thorough as this course. Ken explained everything so I could understand, and I really appreciated all of the live examples and demonstrations. The course is well organized and covers many basics that have made using the manual mode on my DSLR much easier. Thanks.
Very good course
I am very pleased with this course so far (through 11 lectures). The teacher takes the time to go through the topics bit by bit and the result is that I now understand things. Finally I am able to get off the automatic setting on my DSLR. Highly recommended.
I have previously just messed around with photography, but could never understand f-stops, ISO, shutter speeds, etc, so bumbled my way through on Auto, which was fine, but limiting. I have decided to move into wedding photography, but learning all the technical bits really put me off. I've done Ken's course, and now I get it. The material is delivered in a clear, easy to understand way. I have just bought a new Nikon D800 - and picked up the manual yesterday - I was amazed at how much I actually understood. I have never even opened a previous manual as it was just too daunting! Thank you Ken for a very easy to follow course, that made complete sense along the way. Can't wait to start your advanced course!
Great introductory course for any newbie!
Having taken several photography courses here in UDEMY, I can sincerely say that this course is a great course for any newbie. This course allowed me to have a good grasp and understanding what aperture, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field, white balance are and how they work. The Photo Triangle is a great mental picture that visually structures and correlate each element allowing for easy information integration. The best thing about this course is Ken Schultz is REALLY there to answer all your queries promptly so it doesn't feel like you're just reading a manual.
I live in a small town in a fairly rural state, too far from larger urban areas where onsite photography courses are taught. I've looked at many YouTube (free) photography and while several are good, nothing stacks up to Ken Schultz's course. He approaches the core aspects of photography in a concise, thorough, not lengthy, and relaxed manner. He provides background into some of the physics involved in photography and gives ample diagrams and examples to illustrate the lectures. This course should be all I need to get me grounded in photography, and it was well worth money.
This guy is very smart about photography yet is not able to TEACH in a manner that is effective and simple for a true beginner. I would classify this class more in the intermediate stage rather than BEGINNER stage. For that reason I'm going with the LOW star rating. Also the speaker's voice is very slow - he has no enthusiasm.
Ken breaks everything down in a logical and clear manner. Absolutely perfect for beginners.
Much more than I expected!
I'm always happy to get more than what I bargained for and this course certainly fits that bill. As a true DSLR beginner, I have learned a lot more about my camera and about getting the type of shots I want. I appreciated the comparison shots Ken took to show the effects of different settings and lighting, and I felt that the WB portion was done particularly well. I will take the advanced course next, but I know that I will be revisiting concepts from this course often. Thank you so much for such a well-organized and informative course.
Hello from Canada!! Great work i'm on LECTURE 10 right now and i'm really liking your course. I'm learning a lot i have a Olympus PEN PL1 and Just picked up a Canon t4i with a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. I'm understanding both cameras a lot better now. Look forward to your Advanced Course. Thanks Andrew
Easy to understand and very informative...
I really liked your way of teaching... slowly.. and precise.. easy to understand the basics of digital photography.. Now I am going through the advance course.. thanks a lot and more power..
He has the ability to "explain" so many items, and he keeps the terms in simple language. Excellent course! Now... just have to go use what I have learned!
Clear and well delivered explanation and complex terms were demystified. Recommended, not too expensive a course, with good return in investment.
Great but had trouble with vid going from section to section>>>>
love this... even though I have the base cannon dslr a few years old I think I will finally learn how to use all the bells and whistles on my camera as well as understand the aperture depth of field and all those fun things that I have trouble remembering how it works... thanks so much... will be signing up for the advanced course as well bev
I really liked it!
Thank you for this course. It helped me a lot although I read a lot about photography before. And I moved on to the Advanced course! Looking forward to studying it. I liked the way it was created. Now I spend more time with my camera and try to apply everything I have learnt from this course. I'm sure I will like the Advanced course as well.
I found this course to be very helpful. It taught me the basics functions of a DSLR and the basic components of photography. I found that all of the material was presented in a way that was easy to understand and I enjoyed the 'live' examples.
A good initial grounding
Thanks Ken for helping me to understand the basics of digital photography. I found the course easy to follow and liked the fact that I could stop the videos, take notes, download worksheets and try things out. Your use of diagrams on the flip chart is also good. At times you could perhaps speed things up a little, but I was very happy with the course :-).
Great for beginners like myself!
This course covered all I needed to get off the auto settings! I bought a Canon 60D last fall, and thereby upgraded from a PowerShot to a DSLR. My intentions were to learn to get off the Auto modes and start to have more influence on my photos. I started experimenting with Av and Tv on my own. After playing around for about 4-5 months, I needed some guidance though! I've followed Ken's site and received hos newsletters for a while, and found his intro videos. So here I found the guidance I needed. Ken's course has given me right introduction, tips and tricks, to get down the road to become the photographer I wish to become. Ken can at times seem a little nervous or inexperienced in talking to the camera. But that is actually also some of the charm with the course. It is very down to earth, and Ken is very easygoing. I can highly recommend this course for geeks like myself that wants to know a bit more about the hi-tech gear they have added to the ever-growing collection. This geek has found that his newest gadget is capable of so much more, now that its secrets has been revealed! Cheers, I'm off to round two! The advanced course :-)
Have a pen, and use it
Took notes every second. Made topics seem more approachable and the fear of moving that dial off of auto is now turned into a dangerous curiosity.
love the course learn something new everyday
thank you for showing us the basic . i have learn so much over the days , reviewing your video.I was having trouble learning the "f" setting , to i view your video i was turn to the right direction. I also learned about how to set the iso setting .I now stay away from auto setting and take on the Av and slowly moving to M setting, with amazing picture. As you can see fropm my picture here http://ratt1972.smugmug.com/Animals/birds/23815538_4KhBqX#!i=1945645762&k=XH9k4Tj thank you again for opening my eyes and be looking closely to more of your videos - RATT
Great Course For Beginners
Just finished this course and am definately going on the advanced course. Ken, you rock as an instructer. Thanks for putting these courses together. I look forward to starting the next course. This was worth every penny!!
This is a fantastic course and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have a very good camera and have been using it with reasonable success despite not having understood the basic principles in a structured way. This course is giving me that grounding. I highly
Excellent descriptions and helpful hints, to be more confident getting off the presets on my DSLR. Looking forward to the next course.
