Barnes & Noble Releases A New Nook-Branded Samsung Tablet

Alas, poor Nook! I knew him, Reader: a tablet of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: it hath borne me into the library a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at it.

The Nook as we knew it is now a rebadged Samsung tablet and the latest in the family is the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Nook 9.6″ Tablet, a device that features a standard Android implementation with a little Nook software thrown on top.

The new device is $249 and has a 9.6-inch screen with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU with 16GB of storage.

The Nook has fallen far in its long life. Originally aimed squarely at the nascent Kindle, the Nook was quite advanced back in 2009 with an e-ink screen and clever LCD strip on the bottom to show book covers and other info. The two readers were in direct competition for a number of years but in the last few the Nook line – and Barnes & Noble itself – have faced a downturn that looks surprisingly bad for the book behemoth.
