Apple is offering iPhone 6+ owners the opportunity to replace the iSight camera on their device for free, after the U.S. company found that “a small percentage” of models produce blurry images.
The issue, which is related to components inside the camera and does not extend to the iPhone 6, affects “a limited serial number range” that sold between its launch in September 2014 and January 2015. If you bought your Apple phablet between those dates, you can head over to this dedicated website and key in your phone’s serial number (find it here) to check whether your iPhone 6+ is affected.
If you are one of the unlucky ones, Apple is offering to replace the camera free of charge — it won’t issue you a new device — although you’ll need to ensure it is in decent working condition, i.e. the screen isn’t cracked, else you may incur additional repair fees.
You could, of course, sample a Samsung phone for free instead thanks to the Korean company’s new $1-30 day pilot especially for iPhone owners in the U.S..
Samsung practically created the phablet genre and, though Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ were late to the party, they’ve eaten into that market segment since their launch last year. Samsung, however, is optimistic that its new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, have what it takes to reclaim the crown in the five-inch-plus smartphone category. Time will tell, particularly with new iPhone models likely to arrive next month.
