Final Fantasy VII Comes To iOS

If you were cheesed off when Square Enix launched a mobile version Final Fantasy XIII for gamers in Japan only, then we’ve got some news for you. Final Fantasy VII, a true classic in the series, has now landed on iOS — and it is available for all worldwide.

Priced at $15.99, the title requires a whopping 4GB of space on your device (but it will take up 2GB) and supports iPhone 5s or later, gen-3 iPad/iPad mini 2 upwards running iOS 8.

The game has been given touch screen controls for mobile, as you’d expect, and it based on the PC version that launched in 2013 as opposed to the original 1997 release, as Wired noted. Aside from the controls, gamers will be able to switch off random enemy encounters — to help whizz through levels — while there’s an option to switch to ‘Max Stats’ if you get stuck at any point in the game.

This summer, Square Enix revealed that it plans to release a next-generation remake of Final Fantasy VIII for the PlayStation 4. There’s no specific release for that yet, and if you can’t stand to wait for it to drop, or are looking for something resembling the original title, then this iOS release might be right up your alley.
