Medium Launches An Android App, Initially In Closed Beta (Update: Now Open To All)

Update, June 24: That was quick, the app is now available to all Android device owners here.

Medium has brought its publishing* platform to Android, after the company announced the launch of a beta version for Android.

This is very much a work-in-progress and only available to the first wave who download it. Medium — which launched a basic iOS app last year, but only recently added the option to publish stories — said there will be a new Android build available on a nearly daily basis. But getting hold of it in the first place isn’t as simple as just heading to the Google Play Store.

No, sir, Android owners out there must first join the company’s Google+ community page. Then, if/when approved, you can download the app from this link.

Medium is looking for regular feedback from beta testers so that it can refine the Android app before it gets a full launch. So, if you’re a big fan of the platform and own a device running the Google-based operating system, now is your chance to help out and get your hands on the app earlier than everyone else.

*Medium founder Ev Williams recently said it isn’t a publishing platform, but frankly it looks like he’s in the minority out there with this belief.
