Periscope Update Brings A Global Map View Of Active Broadcasts

Periscope users will now be able to open up a map that will show which videos are live around the world as part of an update today.

Instead of just selecting from a feed, users will have a second option of opening up a map that will show hotspots where people are broadcasting video live. It can get as granular as a specific spot in a city, which users can zoom into in order to see where exactly the video is being broadcast.

Periscope’s CEO Kayvon Beykpour hinted that the feature would be coming in a later update in an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt New York last month.

A few other new bits are coming in the update, including a new tool to share broadcasts users are watching to Twitter and making replays instantly available.

The update is only available for iOS users, but should be available to Android users later this year.
