Battery Ventures Poaches Intel Capital’s Dharmesh Thakker

Battery Ventures continues its westward expansion with the addition of Dharmesh Thakker, a former Intel Capital managing director who focuses on enterprise software.

Thakker, who will be a general partner at Battery Ventures, will be the third senior investment professional to work out of the firm’s Menlo Park, Calif. office.

The move is another step to build out Battery’s California presence. The firm now has four senior investment professionals in its Boston headquarters, three in California and two in Israel.

At Battery, Thakker will continue to focus on technology sectors like cloud infrastructure, big data, security and next-generation enterprise applications, according to a statement from the firm. It’s pretty much every buzzword being thrown around enterprise investing right now.

While at Intel Capital, Thakker was involved in the firm’s investments in companies like MongoDB, Maginatics, DynamicOps (which was acquired by VMWare), and earlier stage investments in Mirantis, enLighted, BlueData Software and Elastic Box.

Perhaps most impressively, the Intel investor was involved in the management of Intel’s game-changing partnership with (and investment in) Cloudera.

Before joining Intel Capital in 2011, Thakker spent time as an investor at the later stage investment shop Advanced Technology Ventures and has nearly a decade of experience working in enterprise software companies.
