Truly Wireless Lands $1.4M Seed To Turn Your Smartphone Into An Actual Business Phone

Truly Wireless, a new company launching with a fresh $1.4 million in seed funding, is trying to bring all the same functionality of the classic enterprise telephony system, to the phone you actually use every day, your smartphone. The round was led by Index ventures, Greylock Partners and Boldstart Ventures, with participation from ENIAC ventures and a group of angels.

Truly allows companies to set up their employees own devices with the same features of an old-school enterprise landline, with caller ID, call-forwarding, auto attendant, conference calls, etc. But the real kicker is that everything happens over cellular.

Other players who are trying to bring similar functionality to the mobile phone, such as RingCentral, do so over VoIP. By using the cellular carriers as a platform to build on, Truly combines the same level of technology from the traditional landline with the clarity of cell coverage so that mobile employees can be truly mobile without letting work into their personal phone.

When a business signs up, they can set up various departments and assign phone numbers to employees, choose wait music, set up the auto-attendant, etc. Then, all the employees simply download the app, which is on iOS and Android and compatible with the four major carriers (Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile) and they’re ready to go.

Pricing starts at $7/user/month for startups, but varies based on the feature set and size of the organization.

Truly has been operating in beta for the last year, but today marks the public unveiling of the product. Have at it here.
