The second TechCrunch Disrupt Europe will take place from 18-21st October 2014 in London. Saturday and Sunday will feature the legendary TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon, followed by two days of interviews and panels with Europe’s best entrepreneurs and VCs.
We’re showcasing a deep-dive discussion amongst the most influential VCs in European tech.
Philippe Botteri
is a Partner at Accel Partners who joined after working in the technology industry for more than 15 years, including close to ten years in Silicon Valley. Philippe is leading Accel’s Big Data Fund efforts in Europe and also focuses on investments in security, cloud computing and digital services. He is responsible for the firm’s investments in BlaBlaCar, the leading European ride-sharing community, Docusign, the global SaaS leader in electronic signature and Hailo the global cab e-hailing mobile network. He also co-led Accel’s investment in HouseTrip, the next generation holiday rental booking website and Crowdstrike, a big data security company.
Saul Klein has been a partner with Index Ventures since 2007 and currently serves on the boards of Alertme, Chartbeat, Erply, GlassesDirect, MyHeritage, Seedcamp, Songkick and Soluto among others. He’s also the co-founder of Kano Computing. He was the co-founder and original CEO at what is now Lovefilm International (Amazon) and part of the original executive team at Skype (eBay). In 2007 he also started Seedcamp and OpenCoffee Club, which is now active in over 90 cities around the world.
Eileen Burbidge
is a Partner at Passion Capital, the London-based venture capital firm she established with serial entrepreneurs and investors Stefan Glaenzer and Robert Dighero. She brings extensive operational experience to her investment activities gleaned from business and product development roles at Yahoo, Skype, PalmSource, Openwave, Sun and Apple. Eileen was ranked No. 18 in the WIRED100 list (2012) and serves on the advisory board for Tech City (chaired by the Prime Minister’s Office at No. 10 Downing Street). She is also a frequent guest commentator on Bloomberg TV, CNBC and BBC News.
Daniel Waterhouse
is a general partner with Balderton Capital. He has over 14 years’ experience investing and spent five years as a partner at Wellington Partners, where he led investments in 11 companies and sat on the board of many. He covered opportunities across Europe and was an investor, often providing the first institutional money in a number of fast-growing companies including Hailo, YPlan, SumAll, EyeEm and Qype (sold to Yelp). Before joining Wellington, Daniel was a partner at 3i where he worked on all of their venture and private-equity investments in the Internet sector in North America and Europe. Prior to that, he was at Yahoo for six years from 1999, covering strategic development and M&A across the European region.
Aside from such great speakers, TechCrunch Disrupt Europe will also bring the Startup Battlefield and Startup Alley to London.
Startup Battlefield competitors pitch their companies live and onstage, competing for a prize of £30,000 and the Disrupt Cup. Previous Battlefield competitions have launched companies such as Dropbox, Mint.com, Yammer and Fitbit. You may have heard of them. Startup Alley features about 200 invited startups.
