iTunes App Store Reaches 1.3 Million Mobile Applications

At Apple’s iPhone 6 event in Cupertino this morning, the company announced that the iTunes App Store has now reached 1.3 million applications – an update from the 1.2 million mobile applications announced in June.

For comparison’s sake, in June 2013, Apple announced there were then 900,000 apps available on its platform, which had then been downloaded 50 billion times. By January 2014, that number had grown to 1 million-plus.

This latest metric again puts Apple and Google neck-and-neck in terms of mobile applications available for download on their respective app stores. By unofficial counts, Google Play currently features around 1.36 million applications today.

All of the iOS applications will “just work” on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices also announced this morning, Apple says.
