Second Round Of R/GA Techstars IoT-Focused Accelerator Announced

Based on the actions of Google alone (not to mention other big players in the tech world), it’s incredibly clear that the home is likely one of the next platforms to likely be dominated by tech. That said, R/GA is announcing their second iteration of the R/GA accelerator powered by TechStars, focused exclusively on connected devices and hardware.

Last year, Techstars and R/GA partnered for the same accelerator class, which was hugely successful. Some graduates of the program include Owlet, which raised $1.85M, Grove that recently secured $2M in seed funding, and QOL, which just won two Cannes Lions awards for Alvio, their connected device.

Though home automation and connectivity is one of the most prominent verticals in this area, Techstars is still casting a wide net. For example, applicants aren’t required to have a hardware product if they’re building software that enables the ecosystem of IoT.

Within the program, applicants will get access to the full suite of R/GA’s services, like design, branding and technology, and they have the opportunity to raise up to $120k in seed funding.

In addition to the new class, Techstars has also announced that Jenny Fielding will be taking over as Managing Director of the firm for Calvin Chu.

Fielding previously led New Digital Ventures for BBC Worldwide, where she helped build the BBC Labs corporate accelerator, and before that held the position of CEO at fourforty Inc.

Applications to the R/GA Techstars Accelerator are open right now and will stay open until August 25, 2014. Selected participants will be notified by September 22.
