Y Combinator Alums Aaron Harris And Justin Kan Join As Partners

Startup accelerator Y Combinator just announced that it’s added a couple of new partners, both of whom have been through the program. Alums Justin Kan and Aaron Harris have joined to help mentor the startups that participate in the 12-week accelerator.

TechCrunch readers probably know Kan due to his prolific entrepreneurial streak. He was actually a part of the first Y Combinator batch, way back in the summer of 2005. Since then he’s founded a number of companies and launched interesting products including Kiko, Twitch (née Justin.tv), Socialcam (spun out of Justin.tv and acquired by Autodesk), and Exec (recently acquired by Handybook).

Harris had also gone through YC but much later, as part of the Winter 2011 batch with his startup Tutorspree. While Y Combinator is just announcing his partnership now, he’s actually been at the accelerator since last October, not long after Tutorspree shut down.

Kan and Harris join existing partners Sam Altman, Trevor Blackwell, Paul Buchheit, Paul Graham, Kevin Hale, Carolynn Levy, Jessica Livingston, Robert Morris, Kirsty Nathoo, Geoff Ralston, and Garry Tan.

The two new partners are also being announced not long after Y Combinator decided to make a big change in its leadership ranks. Last month, the accelerator announced that Altman would be taking over as president for founding partner Paul Graham.

Y Combinator has also been bolstering its partner ranks over recent years, mostly by adding part-time partners to help mentor startups. Notably, both Altman and Kan were part of that group before coming on board full-time. Other part-time partners include Emmett Shear, Michael Seibel, Steve Huffman, Dalton Caldwell and Andrew Mason.
