On-Demand Delivery Startup Postmates Launches In Chicago, Its Fifth Market

Postmates has spent the past few years offering delivery of lunch and other goodies in San Francisco and other markets. Now the company, which provides can get damn near anything couriered to your door in less than an hour, will be rolling out in Chicago.

The Windy City will represent Postmates’ fifth market, following launches in San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, and Washington, D.C. And it arrives with a large number of places to choose from and couriers on board — it’ll have goods from 500 merchants listed in the app and 100 Postmates to make deliveries.

Deliveries will be available from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. every day in the neighborhoods of Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Old Town, River North, and the Loop. And, for the next few weeks, it’ll be waiving the delivery fee for new users in Chicago until the end of the month.

Postmates plans to continue its expansion, thanks to $16 million in new funding that it raised about a month ago from Spark Capital. Other investors include include SoftTechVC, Matrix Partners, Crosslink Capital, Scott Banister, Naval Ravikant, Russel Simmons, Thomas Korte, Shervin Pishevar, Dave Morin, and David Sacks.
