Mimecast Backer Dawn Capital Closes New $100M Fund To Invest In Europe

Dawn Capital has announced it has raised £63M ($100M) for its Dawn Capital II Venture Capital Fund. Dawn is best known for its investments in Wonga, Mimecast, Miinto, Cognitive Match, Optimal Print and several other key player in the UK and European tech seen. Privately, sources told us they are now “hunting for early stage deals” in the UK and rest of Europe.

The Dawn Capital II Fund will be focused on Series A investments in the Cloud, Software, Consumer Internet & Platform Infrastructure and Financial Services Technology sectors.

LPs in the fund include some top tier institutions such as the European Investment Fund through the UK Future Technologies Fund and Capital for Enterprise through the new VC Catalyst Fund. Other investors include private individuals.

Haakon Overli, General Partner at Dawn Capital said the firm had progressed from its origins as an Enterprise Capital Fund to raising a larger fund, a move made possible by Capital for Enterprise in awarding them an ECF mandate as a first time fund manager and then closing Dawn Capital II via a commitment by their new VC Catalyst Fund.

Norman Fiore, General Partner at Dawn Capital said the firm’s aim “continues to be the same: to be the first institutional investment partner of choice for entrepreneurs right from the early stages through to exit.”

The fund is run by Chairman Adrian Beecroft, Fiore, Overli, and Josh Bell.
