Facebook Home For Android Will Be Available To International Users Today

If you live outside the United States, have the prerequisite hardware, and have been absolutely dying for a chance to (officially) take Facebook Home for a spin, today is your lucky day. Speaking at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference in New York, Facebook VP of mobile engineering Corey Ondrejka confirmed that Facebook Home will begin its international rollout later today.

“Just today we’re going to be opening [Home] up to the rest of the world,” Ondrejka announced. “We launched in the U.S. because we wanted to make sure we could iron out any remaining bugs.”

Ondrejka wouldn’t expound on what exactly those bugs were, but this is good news for international users itching to see what all the commotion is about. Early reactions to Home were rather critical of Facebook’s replacement Android homescreen — as The Next Web pointed out the app was inundated with one star reviews in the Google Play Store, a situation that hasn’t changed much in the days since Home first launched.

As always, you’ll only be try Home out if you have an HTC One X/X+, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, though there are other, less official ways to get things going with your existing hardware.

Meanwhile, those of you waiting for Home to debut on iOS are out of luck for now — while Schroepfer and Ondrejka noted that Chat Heads would come to the iOS Facebook app by way of an incoming update, but that’s as close as Apple aficionados will get, at least for the time being.
