As promised, Google continues to expand its Google Fiber project in Kansas City. While the initial rollout in the first two neighborhoods was slow, the project is now picking up steam and the company just announced the application schedule for the next five “fiberhoods” that will get access to its gigabit network. Google also announced that it has slightly extended a few of its fiberhood boundaries “so that more people can get Google Fiber.”
Here is the current schedule for the first quarter of 2013:
- Piper Schools — choose your plan by January 31, 2013
- Delaware Ridge — choose your plan by February 14, 2013
- Painted Hills — choose your plan by February 28, 2013
- Open Door — choose your plan by February 28, 2013
- Arrowhead — choose your plan by March 7, 2013
Customers in these neighborhoods can now sign up for their Gigabit + TV Plans, Google’s Internet-only plan, or for the Free Internet Plan for households that don’t need the high-speed access and are willing to pay the $300 construction fee that it waives for households that subscribe to the other plans.
As Eric Schmidt said earlier this month, Google likely won’t stop with Kansas City and may rollout Fiber to other towns, as well. For the time being, though, Google is clearly still learning the ropes of installing and marketing Fiber in Kansas.
