Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Said He Was Hugely Surprised By The Success Of AWS

Amazon.com Founder and CEO said in a fireside chat at AWS re:Invent with CTO Werner Vogels that he was surprised by the success of Amazon Web Services. Bezos said they were optimistic that AWS would do well, but they did not anticipate such huge growth.

I reported this week that AWS is expected to reach $1.5 billion in revenues this year, which will help the company increase its margins for its online retail division.

Earlier today, Vogels talked about helping companies do more volume at lower costs by developing cost-aware architectures. This development came from continually focusing on experimentation at AWS.

Bezos spent time during his discussion to reflect on what we have heard these past two days at re:Invent. Experimentation is at the core of Amazon.com, Bezos said in the fireside chat. To experiment like that, Bezos said he has to direct that focus to make the most of all its assets, its people, and even his own personal schedule to reflect that.
