eBay Now

After launching its same day delivery service in San Francisco a few weeks ago, eBay is debuting “eBay Now” in New York City. Users in the area can download the new app here.

The service offers customers in Manhattan (as far north as 125th Street) and the western edge of Brooklyn access to the same day delivery inventory available at hundreds of local stores, including Macy’s, Target, Walgreens, Toys R Us, and Best Buy.

Obviously the timing of the launch with the holiday shopping rush in one of the service’s biggest markets is purposeful. To provide an incentive for consumers to use the app, eBay is taking $15 off users’ first orders and making the first three deliveries free. (Subsequent deliveries are $5 each while eBay Now is in beta.)

eBay Now will reportedly face competition from Amazon, which is said to be planning warehouses in major cities to offer its own same-day shipping.
