eProf Puts Teachers In Control Of Live, Interactive Online Classrooms

The education sector rarely if ever gets enough attention. It’s simply not as sexy as social, mobile, local, but the tides are changing in a huge way in EdTech, and co-founder and CEO of eProf Trevor Koverko has plans to ride that wave.

eProf is an online education tool that lets anyone become a professor in a live, interactive online environment. The service can support up to 25 live video feeds at once (take that, Google Hangouts!) and puts the control into the hands of the professor.

Rather than getting a Phd before passing along your knowledge, eProf lets anyone with a strong background in this or that subject conduct a course and get paid for it. eProfs control the schedule, curriculum, pricing, and every other aspect of their classroom.

In the words of Koverko, “[eProf] believes the teachers know their students best.”

The main concern, obviously, is that there are no traditional standards. In other words, students don’t get credits and professors don’t necessarily need credentials. In terms of translating the knowledge gained at eProf into real-world standards, it may be quite difficult.

Still, for things like language learning or casual learning, eProf sounds like the way to go. Especially considering that 98 percent of EdTech companies are asynchronous.
