eBay acquires German 'purchase-on-invoice' technology company BillSAFE

A little over a year after its subsidiary PayPal bought a minority stake in German software company BilLSAFE, eBay this morning announced that it has acquired the provider of purchase-on-invoice technology in full.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Kleinmachnow, BillSAFE works with merchants all across Germany, giving them a way to let shoppers purchase items after receiving them, by means of an invoice.

The company, which was founded in 2006, is said to boast over 15 million accounts in Germany.

PayPal / eBay says it believes the addition of BILLSAFE as a payment option will provide a “comprehensive payment service for merchants and consumers” and in a statement claims that purchase on invoice is already the most popular form of payment in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

eBay adds that it does not expect the acquisition of BillSAFE to have a material impact on its most recent financial guidance.
