These videos are produced externally for TechCrunch, not by TechCrunch; although I understand your point about Mike’s financial interest in TechHub, I don’t see how it’s relevant. We didn’t mention that we were filming within TechHub, or that these startups were based there.

We’re focusing around the London startup area at the moment simply because of ease of production. London has an incredibly high concentration of startups in the city, which makes it much easier for us to shoot 6 episodes a day for a quick turn around. It’s more practicality than anything else. We are looking at startup communities in other cities. Personally I live and have a startup in Brighton, so it would be nice to cover some of the new companies down here; I’m also very aware of the buzzing scenes around Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

Two episodes have been released but the show has the legs to potentially go on for dozens more and there is an exhaustive list of startups to get through.

There’s no corporate conspiracy here, there’s no hidden agenda to make money in ludicrous ways. The only intention we have is to create good content centred around highlighting startups in London and eventually the UK. I hope you enjoy it!

The original point was about undisclosed financial interest, which is a pretty fundamental no-no of journalism, regardless of who selected the startups. Although as the Chinese say, the fish rots from the head down, and as Arrington has no problem hyping his secret investments, I guess it’s a free-for-all at TC Towers.

It would also be nice if you’d perhaps spread your net a bit wider – the so-called “silicon roundabout” is a small clique that represents a tiny proportion of tech business in the UK. Although of course you wouldn’t know that from the wall-to-wall coverage on this blog.

I created a similar, but much more basic, site called playerwanted.co.uk a little over a year ago. It gets a few teams signup each day but it’s not getting the sort of traffic you need to make real money.

Maybe the meetup style functionality will make the difference. I’ll watch with interest as it launches.

We’ve only interviewed three startups inside TechHub. In total we’ve filmed 10/11 episodes with the majority of these companies having interests outside of TechHub but still within Silicon Roundabout. The furthest we’ve gone out is to the White Bear Yard.

We film all of our interviews in day blocks, usually about 5/6 in a day. It was convenient to shoot the first set of startups in TechHub, although I agree that they could have been released in a different order.

Hope that clears all of it up! Mike didn’t chose the startups or where they were, I’ve been contacting them individually and trying to fit around their schedules.

I hope you don’t go back and modify it without drawing attention to the edit. Nor delete any comments, like this one, on the subject of this conflict of interest?

In a week in which you’ve seen fit to pronounce on other people’s journalistic integrity, this is sketchy behaviour. Might look like coverage on Techcrunch can be bought!
