Comments on: Labels.io shuns outdated resumes for its job matching algorithm

It’s an interesting solution to a very annoying problem. I’ve recently tried to find job and dealing with recruiters and recruiting sites is a real pain in the neck.
Any updates on how the algorithm is performing? Has anyone actually found a job this way?

Great point Pete – the links you set up in your profile are matched against your skills (i.e. how relevant are your blog posts to “PHP, AJAX, Javascript”) however, we’re not doing that (yet) for Twitter – we’re still unraveling the API while trying to stay within the ToS.

Michael – thanks for your comment. On most of the other job sites you fill in resumes and apply on auto-pilot to as many jobs as possible, often without receiving any feedback. On Labels.io you can’t do that – you create a brief profile and then go about your business (i.e. biking in the park) while your profile is *accurately* matched in real time with job openings posted by employers. Once you show up as a match, it’s up to the employer to contact you regarding the next steps or set up an interview.

On the other hand, if you’re an employer try to compare receiving about 500 lengthy and often irrelevant CVs for each job you post with posting an opening on Labels.io and getting instantly a short-list with the best persons for the job…

I’m not sure I understand why a greater number of visitors to your profile from the outside world would be of benefit.

If you contribute to a popular blog or have a large number of followers on twitter but what you publish is not related to your work, you ratings would go up but that doesn’t mean you are more useful to an employer.

You could tweet a lot about your favorite sports team or game and be very well known in that circle of people, but you might work in health and safety or security.

Am I missing something.
..?

I don’t get it. Most job sites have had you fill out a skills profile, location info and short info about yourself. Additionally, most also let you upload a resume in a traditional paper format, which was likely scanned for more data to be used in searches, and probably downloadable by job offerers.

I bet their execution is slick, but this isn’t exactly a new idea.
