Getting good revenue is all that is needed.

If you go around with the mentality that only 0.00002% of startups succeed (it’s MUCH higher than that) you’ll lose. If you go full gun’s blazing with the energy and enthusiasm to make it succeed you will.

Also it’s a lot easier to find sales and customer facing people (even designers) where developers are somewhat of an enigma and finding a great developer can be hard. Events like this are great for developers and startups/tech-businesses because it concentrates the initial stage of recruitment to a single day.

It’s also great for developers because, with the range of companies, it gives the great ones the choice to do what they like. Which makes for happier developers and a better product. Most of these businesses are product/software based. The software has to be amazing before anything else. Having great sales people who do sell a crap product is, in the long-term, detrimental.

After all, without sales, marketing and networking, coding (coders) is a “capital eater” and is one reason why many startups fail. It’s a numbers game both in staff and revenue :)

There’s a huge amount of demand from candidates who want to work at start-ups (30,000 members in our first year). The main challenge is supplying this demand.
