Here, allow me to ruin your Thursday for you: the production company behind such films as The Blind Side and The Book of Eli is planning to resurrect the Blade Runner franchise! Yay!
The production company, Alcon Entertainment, which is one of the many arms of Warner Bros., is currently in “final discussions” to take over the rights to create sequels and prequels based on the Blade Runner universe.
If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that the rights wouldn’t include the right to re-make the original. So there’s that.
It’s sorta big because Blade Runner is famous for having a tortured lineage. The old Blade Runner PC game was particularly difficult to create because there were so many different rights holders to check in with.
Do you want my advice? Just read the novel the book is based upon, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I guarantee it’ll be better than any silly special effects, trashy 3D nonsense that Hollywood pumps out.
