NPD November: Xbox 360 Outsells Wii, Black Ops Tops Charts

There’s two big stories coming out of November’s NPD numbers. The first is that Microsoft somehow managed to sell more Xbox 360s than Nintendo sold Wiis, with Microsoft selling 1.37 million to Nintendo’s 1.27 million. That’s probably the result of the Kinect. The second is that, yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops sold a whopping 8.4 million units. Good on Activision, swimming in piles of coin.

On the Sony side of things, 530,000 PS3s were sold. That’s down 25 percent from last year.

One thing to keep in mind for the PS3 numbers is that if there ever was a game that could be considered a “system-seller” it would be Gran Turismo 5, and that didn’t come out till the end of the month. (And yet the game still managed to claim the 8th top selling spot!) So I’d wait till December’s numbers before breaking out any “lolsony” you may have ready to spring.

What’s most shocking to me is that Madden NFL 11 is still number 4 on the list. Am I the only person in America who’s never bought a single Madden game? I had NFL 2K for the Dreamcast, but then didn’t we all.
