Gogo Inflight and SkyMall to Offer a Complimentary In-Flight Wi-Fi Shopping Experience

ITASCA, Ill. & PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aircell and SkyMall today announced a partnership between two of the world’s leading in-flight service providers that will enable passengers to shop online from 30,000 feet. Launching in December of this year, Gogo® equipped aircraft on AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, US Airways and United Airlines will begin to offer access to SkyMall.com at no charge.

“Providing customers with the ability to order from SkyMall anytime and anywhere including while in-flight was a key part of the original SkyMall vision”
Available on nearly 850 Gogo equipped aircraft, and just in time for the busy holiday shopping season, customers will be able to shop from over 300 retailers and over 22,000 products from SkyMall with no internet access charge.

To celebrate the new partnership and for a limited time, customers who spend $125 or more on merchandise with SkyMall via Gogo will earn a free Gogo flight pass valid on any Gogo equipped flight. Customers can visit www.SkyMall.com/FreeWifi to take advantage of this offer from their home or via Gogo onboard their flight.

“This is a natural partnership and signals an important evolution in Gogo’s offerings. It melds one of the staples of air travel, SkyMall, with the connectivity-enabled passenger experience of the future,” said Ash ElDifrawi, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Aircell. “This collaboration demonstrates how the Gogo platform can be used to enhance the passenger experience through strategic partnerships with companies like SkyMall.”

“Providing customers with the ability to order from SkyMall anytime and anywhere including while in-flight was a key part of the original SkyMall vision,” said Jay Scannell, COO of SkyMall. “With Gogo now available on thousands of daily airline departures, this partnership will allow us to enhance the customer experience by leveraging our investments in e-commerce and mobile commerce. We will further empower today’s mobile consumer to shop whenever they want through the channel of their choice.”

Through this partnership, SkyMall is now able to offer access to an expanded selection of merchandise and a full, digital rich, multi-media shopping experience for its customers while they are onboard and connected to Gogo’s Wi-Fi service from their laptop or mobile device.

With Gogo, passengers can shop from SkyMall; browse the Web; access online music, games and podcasts; send and receive e-mail; and connect to virtual private networks while flying. The easy-to-use service provides passengers with full internet access on any Wi-Fi-equipped laptop or personal electronic device at speeds similar to wireless mobile broadband services on the ground.
