There will be a large IT and electronics exhibition in Japan happening next week (CEATEC), and Panasonic Japan just announced [JP] it will use the show to announce a new cell phone. The company has set up a dedicated site [JP] for the new device but is being pretty mysterious about it (no pictures).

Some information was made available about the so-called “Lumix Phone”, however. Lumix is Panasonic’s brand of digital cameras, so we probably can expect a good camera. Here’s what Panasonic said the phone will feature:

  • 3.3-inch LCD screen with 854×480 resolution
  • “Mobile VenusEngine” for HD images
  • camera with 13MP CMOS sensor
  • microSDHC slot
  • Wi-Fi
  • DLNA support
  • size: 116×52×17.7mm, weight: 146g

Panasonic plans to reveal full specs and showcase the phone on October 5, during the first day of CEATEC. We’ll keep you posted.
