Though I disapprove of any use of the word “Epic” outside of those which involve dudes with massive beards, dudes on wooden ships battling sea monsters, or dudes carrying massive stone hammers, I do not disapprove of the Sprint Epic 4G. Samsung’s 4.0″ Super AMOLED display, 1Ghz CPU, dual cameras, WiMax, and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard? I’ll take one for each hand, please.

Samsung and Sprint have been pretty mum about when this thing will be launching — but now it looks like we’ve got a date.

According to BGR, Sprint’s playbook currently has the Epic 4G launch date pinned on August 11th. That, of course, is one day before August 12 — they day on which, if all pans out, Verizon will be launching the Droid 2 and AT&T will be launching the BlackBerry Torch.

One day’s lead or not, Verizon will almost certainly sell more Droid 2s than Sprint will sell Epic 4Gs — they’ve just got more momentum, and way more money to spend on continuing the massive ad campaign they established with the first Droid. Fortunately, units sold doesn’t mean everything; this phone should still be rather epic awesome.
