Admit it, 99% of your Twitter searches are for vanity purposes. You do it, I do it, we all do it. And such a search revealed a potentially very useful and powerful new feature today. Twitter is now injecting name results into searches on twitter.com when you do a regular search for a name.
To be clear, Twitter has had a name search option for some time, but this is the first time they’ve put it… → Read More
Scytl, the Internet voting company, has closed a $9.2 million round of funding led by European VC firm Balderton Capital, and supported by Nauta Capital, a previous investor. The new funds will enable Scytl to “consolidate its leading position in the electronic voting market and support its international expansion”, says the company, with a primary focus on the U.S.

For probably two years now I’ve been using a Corsair Survivor thumbdrive, a reliable little guy that’s more or less waterproof and crushproof. I think it’s pretty tough, and whenever I have serious backup to do under 32GB, I’m sure to use it. Well, loyal as it’s been, it may have just been supplanted by the latest in the “key” series from LaCie.
The Xtremkey has an alloy shell that seals up and… → Read More
Incase’s wares are among the best iPhone accessories. They make good stuff and the iPhone 4 cases look no different. There will be four different series — Slider Case, Snap Case and Protective Cover with additional styles, including the Perforated Snap Case — launching at the end of July with more coming shortly afterwards. Click through for a gallery showcasing the upcoming cases. → Read More
Given the amount of coverage about the iPhone 4 antenna issue, you’d think it was the first sign of the apocalypse or something. It’s one thing for tech blogs to talk ourselves in circles about an issue, it’s another when the mainstream media starts leaning on the story in a major way. I mean, this was Keith Olbermann’s number one item on Countdown last night. And local broadcasts across the… → Read More
A catalog from Verizon, detailing their Summer lineup of handsets and services, has been leaked and scanned. What’s in it? A number of things. The most exciting of which has to be the Kin One and Two listed right there under smartphones. From these we can deduce that this catalog is slightly out of date. Seriously, though, the big find is the Droid 2, which we have already seen around, but… → Read More
Cars touting full integration with the iPod and iPhone are nothing new — but so far, the experiences have been pretty terrible. The head unit (otherwise known as the “deck”) is tasked with pulling your music library from the iPhone, displaying all that data in a custom (and generally awful) interface. Everyone from JVC to BMW has taken it upon themselves to invent the wheel for… → Read More
Mobile Backstage, a new social music service and mobile app that lets artists and bands “engage” with their fans, is set to officially launch next week, although it’s already been trialed by the likes of hip hop star Dizzee Rascal, and the ‘emo’ outfit You Me At Six (yes, I’ve never heard of them either). It’s been developed by Steam Republic, a Finnish mobile solutions company, which says it… → Read More
OK, this is great. It’s an updated version of Microsoft’s WorldWide Telescope, and t’s all about Mars. Microsoft spent three years developing this new version of the application, with its engineers put together after studying super high-resolution Nasa photos. The result is, much like Google Earth, you can zoom around the Red Planet, taking in the sights and sounds right from your computer. → Read More
It’s no secret that retailers love them some gaming system bundles. Easy money. Traditionally they include a random 3rd-party accessory pack along with a sub-par game. However, Walmart’s Kinect bundle is a bit different. For $50 over the $149 MSRP, it includes one of the for launch games that retail for $60 ($60! That’s insane btw. Solid work, Microsoft) and a $30 Walmart eGift card. That’s… → Read More
Long before he was part of the powerful investing duo behind venture fund Andreessen Horowitz, Ben Horowitz was a co-founder and CEO of Opsware (previously known as Loudcloud) a pioneer for cloud computing companies (Opsware was eventually sold to HP in 2007 for $1.6 billion). He’s considered an expert in the cloud so his first investment in a cloud computing startup is something to pay attention… → Read More
We’ve covered a number of weird robots on CrunchGear in the past, but this one’s a first. Meet Kame Robotto, which is probably the world’s first turtle robot (kame means robot in Japanese). Made by Tokyo-based robot venture Kondo [JP], the robot is actually sold as the first of a series of “animal robots” that Kondo plans to roll out in the next few months. → Read More
A handy Greenpeace e-mail popped into my e-mail collector unit that reminded me of this: hey, Apple is a nice company to the environment! While the iPhone 4 may be a flawed hunk of junk, it is constructed out of Earth-friendly materials. Not a stitch of PVC plastic or BFR to be found. Meanwhile, Dell has waffled and waffled for years now, saying that, oh sure, our products will be totally green… → Read More
The 3,000,000+ iPads sold say it best: people want and love the iPad. Apple’s next generation, however, will clearly define Apple’s future plans for the device though. According to a Digitimes report, there are two smaller sizes in the works — 5.6-inch and 7-inch — which if true, states that Apple is going to ride this gravy train to the bank. Smaller sizes, and perhaps even larger ones, show… → Read More
Huge news that may affect the release of AAA: Heroes del Ring, the lucha libre game that I very much enjoyed at E3 last month. The deal is that Dr. Wagner, Jr. was supposed to be on the cover of the game because his team won a match right there at E3. It was a good match, too, at least three stars. But word out of Mexico is that Dr. Wagner, Jr.has left AAA! He showed up at a CMLL (a rival… → Read More
Some people say… the iPhone 4 is a piece of junk. The latest episode of the greatest show on television, Top Gear, made mention of the issue that has captured the world’s attention: the shoddy craftsmanship of the iPhone 4. You know a story is huge when Jeremy Clarkson and Co. devote valuable airtime to it. → Read More
There are already tons of sites that let you share photos, with Facebook, arguably, the default way for friends, colleagues and family to share those captured moments. Yet Yogile, a bootstrapped startup and one-man shop founded by Netherlands-based Maurice Sikkink, thinks it has spotted a gap in the market: dead simple photo sharing with an emphasis on multi-authored albums without the need for… → Read More

One of the key advantages of on-demand music streaming services compared with traditional radio is that as well as listening to the music you choose you can do away with the DJ’s endless chatter and other interruptions. But there is a potential downside: being isolated from current events, such as breaking news.
We7, the UK music streaming service and rival to the likes of Spotify in Europe… → Read More
As one of the founders of the original Napster and CloudMark (an anti-spam service), Jordan Ritter, has always been fascinated by the idea of combining the power of the cloud and the potential of human capital. Last April, he met up with Alex Edelstein, a former CloudMark executive, to hammer out their next business plan.
Over a round of beers, the idea for CloudCrowd was born.

$10. That’s how much it costs these days to turn your iPhone into a universal remote, thanks to Zeev Braude, co-founder of Ryz Media. Universal remotes traditional cost between $150 to $1000+, so $10 is a freakin’ steal. The app is called My TV Remote (iTunes link) and it’s free. You can then pay $9.99 via in-app purchase (inclusive of Shipping and Handling) and get a little… → Read More
It’s easy to say that online education can never capture the full experience of being in a classroom, the one-on-one chats with the teacher, the face-to-face bonding with classmates, the simplicity of raising your hand when you have a question. Opening a chat window or sending an email just doesn’t compare.
The question is: How much do people care about those differences? Because we heard… → Read More
Before we continue, a quick recap of the terms:
Jailbroken: Modified to be able to install third-party applications not approved by Apple, generally via an alternative App Store.
Unlocked: Able to run on GSM networks other than the one it was originally sold for. In the case of US iPhones, that means an unlocked AT&T iPhone could run on T-Mobile (sans 3G) or any of the GSM carriers in… → Read More

Shares seem to be recovering now at $249 per share.
