Lost In Val Sinestra: A Mesmerizing Movie Trailer Featuring Your Facebook Friends
Robin Wauters
Jul 29, 2010

Double rainbow awesome. There’s no other modern way to describe this.

I won’t spoil it too much, but whatever you do today, visit this website and select some of your closest friends from your Facebook graph when prompted. You won’t be disappointed.

From the looks of it, this was put together by Swiss telecoms provider Swisscom to promote its TV offerings. Hat tip to Ouriel Ohayon.

Awesomeness in a bottle.

Update: sorry if it’s slow or down for you, site must be getting slammed right now.

Mind blowing stuff. I was expecting just few names appearing here and there. But watching friends on tv and mobile inside the trailer made my day :D

Someone needs to correct the anchorwoman’s translation in English.. it’s now not know… Other than that – it looks great!

  • Steve

    A nice break.

Dear Folks! We’re very glad about the awsome feedbacks. Could you please change the Link to http://www.lost-in-val-sinestra.com (instead of http://www2.…), otherwise we might run into a little problem about the load ballancing of our Servers ;o)

Also, please note that we do have some little problems about the Facebook Postings. We’re working really hard on it.

    Thanks, and… well… have Fun then!! ;o)

    What a fun experience…
Did you notice that it shows some picture from your facebook album in a real album of “old” photos in one of the room?

    Sooooo cool!

  • http://www.flairjax.com Jason

Did this back in 2003 with RFID + Flash. Yawn!!! They need to switch TTS engines as the voices are horrible.

  • Eric

That was fun. To bad the link they provide you doesn’t redisplay the version you made as described. Must be a problem with the server.

Haven’t been able to load this for two hours.

  • http://WatchMojo.com Dave

It’s taking a really long time to load my friends. I don’t have that many…

  • Ethan

that is soooo cool how you implemented Facebook’s Social Graph into a social media marketing plan back in 2003.

    movie is beautifully done though…

  • Andrew

wow, now that is a creative use of social media in marketing. Every fortune 500 is sitting around trying to figure out something to do and a swiss company trumps them!

  • jeremy jere

if i could upvote you I would, what an incredible smart ass sarcastic comeback, and i mean that in the good way

  • http://www.flairjax.com Jason

Awesome comeback Ethan! I like how you focused on tapping into Facebooks social graph as the key part of this… I mean using an API to tap into a Facebooks database is so innovative and then turned it around as a comeback! Give me a celebratory high five on that one!

That will show him…. I mean me.

  • Mexican Janitor

Man! this really is starting to look like a triple rainbow, Oh my God! so good, so pro, so intense!
    LOVE IT!!!

  • Seamus Condron

This is amazing, but here is one giant FAIL at the end. The sharing feature is awful. When you share to Facebook, it doesn’t play the video in wall. Worse, there isn’t even a media preview or a decent description. The link begs not to be clicked.

    Yes it is Awesome !!

@seamus Tanks man for the comment. Well, we’re dealing with Somerset facebook Problems right now regarding the postings. We’re working on them. Stay runed and get Ready for the secret!! ;0)

  • Duder VonDuder

Nice production, not personal so much as custom, TTS sounds like a robot puking, way too long to load/customize if u have a lot of Facebook friends and plays for way too long. Wonder if this is Varitalk – heard they are back in biz, but prolly not with Mrs. Roboto – the Varitalk stuff is usually simpler and sounds real.

  • Lisa

Help! I love this and want to make one for my daughter and her friendsbut cannot figure out how/where to change the cast members…can anybody help?

  • Lisa

How do you change the cast?

  • http://www.hinderlingvolkart.com Michael Volkart

Howdy! Change the Cast just by clicking on the entries. Note that you can weather chose from facebook or weather upload pictures.

Best regards and lots of fun.

  • http://five4all.com/elitecrowd Valentin

    Is relative simple.
The script takes his automate casting characters.
After, is provided a “list” with the 9 characters. Click on anyone’s picture and you’ll have a scrolling list of your friends .. click on the friend you want in and will replace the original one.

  • nour

its awesome really!! but when ever i try to open the link! it just keeps on “loading cast” and doesnt show the video!!:S:S please can anyone help?? or is it a technical problem?? hope ur working on it! cause its too bad the link wont open! cause its a great vid!

  • 10com – rules for digital data flows

    really amazing BUT …

the Val Sinestra App seems to be a Trojan Horse !

To personalize the movie you must install an app in Facebook. This app collects and maintains personal information from your account. Swisscom, the company that ordered the viral, may receive personal information from Facebook such as your name, your friends names, email address and an ACCOUNT PASSWORD.

In some cases, Swisscom may process personal information on behalf of a third party, such as advertising partners.

    source: http://data.lost-in-val-sinestra.com/3/pdf/application-rtc.pdf

This goes further than common privacy protection rules allow.

Ironically, in The Netherlands last year the same type of movie-personalisation was used in a campaign from the Dutch Ministry of Justice, to raise awareness on the effects of providing personal information to the internet.

  • Mr. TTS

Any suggestion what TTS to use?

When I get it working… it’s missing many of my friends! Well, half of the ones I’d like to cast, anyway… :(
