Full Trailer For Facebook Movie ‘The Social Network’ Hits The Web
Jason Kincaid
Jul 15, 2010

The full trailer for The Social Network, the highly anticipated film written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher that retells the origins of Facebook, has just landed. Buzz for the movie has been steadily building up for the last month as the studio released teaser trailers filled with dramatic music and punchy dialog — but no footage showing the actors. This latest trailer brings the goods, and the movie is looking pretty damn good.

The new trailer includes many of the same terse quotes we’ve been hearing in the teaser trailers — ”Is there anything that you need to tell me? — but with the footage to accompany them. As would be expected, the trailer is loaded with scenes of Jesse Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg (I especially like the last clip of him), Justin Timberlake’s Sean Parker, with appearances from the Winklevoss twins, Dustin Moskovitz, and more. The movie is slated for release October 1 2010.

For those who were wondering, the song is Scala’s version of Creep.

oh!!!! it was not a joke … they're making a movie for real but after watching the trailer … I am confused .. who is the real founder of facebook ?

Looks pretty good, but hard to deny that the reason it looks so good is that song. Thanks for linking to it.

    Must watch now.

writing math on the windows = a beautiful mind. After seeing a copy of that scene in this movie it automatically made me hate it even more,

  • http://www.justafive.com John

I think they could have done a much better job with the trailer…. hope there will be updated ones

  • http://www.cdnpal.com Christopher

This movie is going to give tech movies like Pirates of Silicon Valley and Anti-trust a bad name I think.
You can only dramatize so much and he didn't do very much compared to other well known CEOs.

I would have preferred a movie about Tom from MySpace, Richard Rosenblatt and Brad Greenspan with a splash of Mark Lucovsky vs. Steve Ballmer and his office chairs and death threats against Google.
    That would have been good.

    I'll pass on this movie.

  • http://cdnpal.com Christopher

Sorry if this is a dupe. Having problem with the comments system.

This is why David Fincher is a genius. Take something that honestly could be quite boring to translate to the screen and make it dark, sexy and dramatic.

  • BigM

Trent Reznor signed on to do the music. Is that his cover of Radiohead?

  • Scott

Since when is buzz building for this movie. I've never heard it mentioned outside of a few tech blogs.

  • dennis k

Good trailer and the actor was looks to be a good fit. What would be interesting to see is the studio/producers promote the movie entirely through FaceBook versus the traditional marketing outlets.

  • Johnny

Zuckerberg founded it, but some other students at Harvard accused him of ripping off their idea

  • http://twitter.com/JAH2488 @JAH2488

It looks awesome, but I'm really not looking forward to the inevitable rush of people who see this movie attempting to create "the next facebook". The hollywood effect is pretty strong, and I don't think the tech scene has had something this big to date.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/AgencyRecord AgencyRecord

I got too say, with the talent behind this film (http://ow.ly/2c1Sd ), its going to be hard to ignore. I think it may even hold a chance at being a good movie – let's just hope they didnt pull punches.

  • BigM

Nevermind, it says in the link above that it's the Scala & Kolacny Brothers.

The intro to that trailer is pretty depressing…

I actually kind of want to see this now.

  • Mark Fuckerberg

this movie looks fake and forced. the soundtrack should have been Vampire Weekend.

  • Anne

Creepy trailer no pun intended, it actually looks good.

Also, you can't deny that all of us have thought about WHY people are on FB all the time talking about their pets and lives etc to broadcast it to whoever will listen…THAT is what makes the "I want you to notice…" part in that trailer/song so creepy and real.

Not sure I can co-sign anything with Tustin Jimberlake in it though…

$0. Don't have to buy the rights. Only person got paid was Mezrich, the author that the book about FB.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/ninagosaimas ninagosaimas

I like the song creep personally, but why did they pick that song for this trailer? It depicts a different tone for me, at least that's the way how I see it.

Being a creep isn't synonymous to being a genius or really 'special'. I do believe it's the biggest misconception going around teens today. Actually, being a creep has dual sided benefits, its either you end up going really astray and be a loner. Or, you try to do something really worth it for the people around you.

Sadly, 90% goes on the former, only 10% goes to the latter. I just hope that open-facebook (diaspora) will become a success.

  • http://twitter.com/hawks5999 @hawks5999

Really? Give Anti-Trust a bad name? That movie ranks right up there with Hackers for worst possible portrayal of technology and technologists ever. It's almost as bad as The Net… no maybe worse.
David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club) is no hack like Peter Howitt. This movie will be compelling even if it turns out to be completely fictionalized. Heck, I'd be fine if Zuck turns out to be Tyler Durden in the film. You never know what to expect from Fincher except for good cinema.
And honestly, I like Pirates but it hasn't aged well. Watching it now is painful. It's a shame that couldn't have been made as a theatre release and not an expanded cable made for TV production. A bigger budget and better production values could have yielded a much better film.

I don't know why everyone votes down an opinion supporting the film. I'm skeptical, but seeing the talent behind the film, I'd be surprised if it was an absolutely terrible film.

  • tony

Doesnt that scene mean it is going to be a parody of how fucking stupid FB is? And how he accomplished nothing? Its like belittling it. I cant think of another reason to mirror that movie. no pun intended.

  • Kiki

Since they made a great trailer and chose to run it before Inception.

  • Kiki

Not closely at all since this movie is apparently unsympathetic towards Zuckerberg. I imagine he feels about this movie the same way Hearst felt about Citizen Kane.

  • Charlie

lol, haven’t you ever written math on the windows? We do it occasionally at engineering school. They’re useful when no whiteboard is around… it’s not like they came up with the idea for A Beautiful Mind.

  • The Man

What a dumb idea for a movie. It looks like a joke.

Terrible cover of a good song too.

  • Glen

If you’ll pardon the expression, OMFG. Really? This is beyond lame. Fincher in his sober moments should be choking on the shameful waste of his own faded talent. Watch for this movie to appear almost immediately on Videogum’s WMOAT.

Seriously, it’s barely been more than half a decade since Facebook showed up, and I don’t think it’s done anything earth-shaking enough to merit a film this overly-dramatic looking. It’s a website. Mark Zuckerberg made a lot of money on it. That story doesn’t scream “make a movie out of me!” to me.

  • Casey

Terrible cover of an OK song. It’s the best song on “Pablo Honey” but that isn’t saying much. And Radiohead wishes it had never been written.

  • herr crapp

The only people “excited” about this movie on this page are obviously publicists and other people who have a vested interest in its success. Everyone else apparently couldn’t care less. It has bomb written all over it

  • Katie

Worst movie idea ever. Really. Who cares where Facebook came from? I certainly don’t care enough to pay $11 a ticket to find out.

  • Dan

Man, I can’t wait to watch a movie about a cry baby sitting in his dorm room writing code. Last time I checked, programmers had the most exciting job life ever. My hands are just shaking from the anticipation (or lack there of). Have fun boosting Zuckerberg’s ego.

I’m amazed Fincher even thought this to be a good idea. He has done so many good films, and now this? There better be a hostage scene followed by explosive car chases, or one of Zuckerberg’s closest friends on the project better be a figment of his imagination.

  • Graeffe

What?!? Not only was Hackers the most best movie of all time it was the most realistic!

Facebook is no substitute for real friends and relationships and provide a medium for narrissistic people to project themselves as themselves. Remember, the internet is virtual and not real and people who dwell on the internet lack social skills and are basically socially inept.

  • rense

Great a movie about the socially mal-adjusted? Should be a blockbuster.
Yeah, hollywood has no more creativity left. Just a bunch of nonsense crap.

  • beedogs

You can tell when the mouth-breathing Drudge readers finally found this article. They take the time to tell us just how much they don’t care about things.

  • Frank4

This movie marks the climax of the Facebook bubble. I started using FB in January of 2005. I knew it was getting out of hand when my grandma friended me in 2008. Then came a Southpark parody and now I see Billboards for Mayonnaise telling me to “Like” them on Facebook. A full feature Hollywood production is a sure sign that Facebook will soon be going the way of Myspace and AOL. It was good while it lasted Zucks, I hope you made the most of it! See you around town…

  • John Q Public

And you’re certain of this how? Were you there during the early days? Frankly I think he did steal it, but Facebook got big enough, quickly enough, that he could lawyer the others into poverty.

In court it’s not about finding the truth, it’s about having the finances to support long drawn-out litigation. If Z didn’t steal the concept he would never have settled out of court. His advisers were smart to suggest that Z make it go away quickly.

  • Celtic26

As mush as I admire Fincher for his directing – I think he made a mistake by doing this “film.” The story of Facebook is really not that interesting. What makes FB interesting is that the chapter of Facebook’s story that is happening right now. How Facebook is slowly falling apart and how dangerous the privacy game that they are playing is should be worthy of a film. A documentary at best – not a full length feature film. This movie will be successful if there is nothing else remotely entertaining sharing it’s opening weekend. It will be “one-weekend wonder.”

  • shawn

So Facebook defines this generation? You all must be proud…the generation of entitlement-mentality and ‘notice me’. The world really doesn’t revolve around you and your tweets…and the majority of your facebook friends really aren’t friends at all. Where would you be if you didn’t have a cell phone that’d make ya pancakes & then rub your balls?

  • Edword

zuckerberg gives me the creeps. is his head plastic?

  • Celtic26

I agree. He’s a creepy guy. The only reason we still see the guy is because of the big corporation’s need for consumers to associate FB with a human face. We are all supposed to feel as if there is “a young college geek” behind this whole thing. “Nothing to worry about here – click along.”

  • ActionJunkie

Give “Myspace” a movie!? Without Myspace there would be NO Facebook… amazing how media “spins” EVERYTHING.

  • Proud Aryan

I’m so sick and tired of this MUSLIM pResident not taking any action and ruining our reputation by cowtowing to these TERRORISTS in PAKISTAN. I just wish they would IMPEACH him over not taking care of this oil spill because he is in bed with BP. Maybe if we talk to our congressmen they will find a way to show his real BIRTH CERTIFICATE from indonesia. We need to have this tea party movement grow so that we can go back to the principles of our founding fathers. Allow slavery in certain states so that we can keep the minorities in line so they don’t cause too much trouble. TEA PARTY ’12!

  • Wallace

Like those who leave comments about articles for all to see?

  • Nick

I’ve seen the previews – this move looks unbelievably lame. The trailer, with the crappy cover song just made it that much worse looking.

  • Funk

Great so all the facebook douchebags now have something to do. I’ll wait for the DVD.

  • madie

“Accused” him of ripping off their idea, jackass.

  • Tom

This is a fake — or whatever the latest web lingo is for this kind of thing — and I expect we’re going to see a lot more of it as we head toward November.

When I really step back and think about it, it’s kind of stunning to me that anyone could have some big problem with the Tea Party’s raison d’etre: more individual liberty and more limited government. Yet here’s somebody who hates it enough that they’re actively trying to dress the movement in “Aryan” clothing for the purpose of discrediting it.

    That’s just… WEIRD.

  • jgdp

Who would waste one second watching this? How stupid.

  • Alex

Wow, an entire generation of people… sitting infront of an electronic screen for hours…

…then seeing a movie about it. All that time your lives are wasting away.

  • Brad ‘shopping cart’

Define a generation?? No. It’s schlocky, pointless, stupid and a sad reflection on the domineering hold that media has on society. Disgusting.

  • David

The many posts prove the movie hits a nerve; all this chatter is great free publicity. Love the idea or hate it, most people here will eventually watch this film.

Whatever happen to the Friendster founder? Does nobody remember him going on national television as a celebrity? Morning shows? Late night talk shows? Everyone has forgotten his name, and Friendster.

Hard to imagine, but just like Friendster, just like Myspace, like AOL Hometown, like Podango and GeoCities, like Prodigy, like Compuserve, The FACEBOOK shall too pass. And probably within many less than will be fathomable, especially for would be investors.

  • Joe Jones

Yawn..some bozo makes a POS website and it has 500M users.

  • modelagnosticcom

    It’s really not highly anticipated…

  • David

Way-to-go kidd. What you did was better than winning the lotto; you actually DID something to EARN your money. Spend it, enjoy it, give some away but never be shamed or intimidated by these idiots.

  • Franco McNeil

…and I heard nothing about Inception until about a week before it was released. Just because *you* haven’t heard about it doesn’t mean there is no buzz.

I heard about this a long time ago as “Aaron Sorkin’s next project”. I didn’t need any more than that.

And to the silly poster above who said “[Zuckerberg] accomplished nothing”, well, that may well be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on the internet. And that is saying a lot.

  • Rebecca

I don’t have a clue whether he stole the idea or not, and frankly I don’t care. Seriously though, if you think that someone settling out of court is a sign of guilt you are either deluded or have never been involved with the court system.

    Movie looks boring.

  • B. Real

Hackneyed and derivative. What an embarrassment. But it has so many marketing tie-ins, no Hollywood?!

Another reason I don’t miss working in the entertainment industry.

  • nathan

this whole narrative is disingenuous, Tom from myspace called, facebook was not innovative. it gained on myspace by at first being gated to college students, a crypto-racist class discrimination that even after the gate came down persisted through self-selection and split the userbase of myspace, basically white kids moved to cleaner, crisper fb and minorities stuck it out with myspace.

as a movie I cannot imagine a more boring premise, let’s make a movie about ebay and amazon while we’re at it.

  • Kris

Trailer featured over-bearing mood music unsuited to the *not-a-matter-of-life & death* subject matter. I fear it is more of the same generation taking itself way too seriously. Wait for the video and hope that’s NOT the music in the final cut.

  • Mathis

This is so stupid. what next, a movie about Obama’s presidency? They are both foolish wastes of time.

  • http://theamericanassembly.wordpress.com Ben Knotts

Pure truth is seldom as interesting as truth mixed with a lie . Lies, sadly, make truth worth watching and deceive the weak minded to believe what didn’t happen was better than knowing the truth. So long as we value being lied to, we will be the fools that we accuse others of being.

” ‘The Social Network,’ a film based on Ben Mezrich’s book “The Accidental Billionaires” that is due out in October, is largely fictional, according to Zuckerberg and co-founder Dustin Moskovitz. Hollywood has spiced up what would otherwise have been a much duller tale about the birth of the popular social networking site at Harvard with sex and squabbles.”

    – Jessica Guynn

  • Brett

Highly anticipated? HAHAHA….Settle down. This is going to be a massive flop.

  • Dano

The music and acting look and sound horrible. What boring subject matter. It is one thing to use a a service like facebook, it’s an entirely different thing to make a movie about it and some dork’s struggle to get recognition. An hour and a half or two of sitting there watching some computer geek struggle with fratboys would be more entertaining if it were along the lines of Revenge of the Nerds.
