[Amsterdam] SoGeo, provider of a context aware platform for mobile and Web, this morning announced that it has secured €1 million (roughly $1.2 million) in funding from investor group BlueBubbleLab.

SoGeo is in the midst of building a location-aware information sharing platform and API with social and community features, including a suite of mobile and web apps that interface with it.

SoGeo is targeting businesses interested in the platform, essentially a set of technologies that collects, analyzes and stores location data, photos and videos, user accounts and attention data, to engage with their customers.

SoGeo’s product allows users to explore places around them through their mobile. Users can access location and event-related content and receive suggestions based on contextual factors, such as their own location, time, likes and dislikes. New places or spots can be created by users, adding them to the overall personal suggestion engine.

The startup’s in-house designers and developers build the actual applications on top of the platform. SoGeo offers a variety of ways for audiences to search, browse and interact with information. The community can be accessed through applications for iPhone and Android phones. Optimized mobile and desktop class web applications allow for easy access to communities, whether from a smart phone, iPad or a PC at home.

Sounds like they have a focus. Hopefully they will stick with it and not scatter in confusion like simplegeo has.

Seems to me that there are alot of start ups in this arena. With FourSquare, Gowalla and newly launched hummba.com, I think that the competition is going to be really strong.

Hindsight is 20/20. BlueBubbleLab and the Whatser owners ended up fighting in court about the funding; investors refused to pay even, company racked up 1/2 million in debts and never paid its staff. Another sad 37signals case study of stupid investors and founders, basically.
